SM Exhaust

Just a heads up to let you all know that SportsMaserati will be producing a mid section, and GS box modification exhaust, for sensible money.

We anticipate making our own X pipe that simply replaces the 4200 mid box plus offering 2 different sound options/upgrades for GranSport Rear boxes.

Stage one will be making the SPORT flap open route straight through and not partially silences as the OEM one is

Stage two will be changing the valving so all the gasses exit via either the stage one mod above or via the OEM silenced route and not split between the two.

Costs will be low and a benefit to members and you will have to supply your own GS rear boxes. Can we have a show of hands for anyone who might be interested.

Definitely interested Matt. Who's doing the fabrication?

Not sure yet, but I will approach my local firms first but might contact Charlie at Prospeed and Profusion Customs Ltd as they are doing X pipes sections on Ebay very competitively.

Interested although as per Richard, cost to transport to Aus will need to be considered.

The problem with the non-valves boxes is that you can only have one sound level. If you don't want to plumb the valves in you can have a look at the well trodden paths regarding upgrades ie Larini, Quicksilver, Tubi etc. The purpose of the project mentioned in #1 is so we can have more noise in Sport but retaining the stealth mode when the valves are closed. The phase 2 mod allows ALL the gasses to go through either the unsilenced sport side or through the quiet side by putting valves/butterflies on all 4 tail pipes. At the moment on the GS boxes, the quiet side is always open, so some (up to half) of the gasses pass through the quiet side even when the valves are open. This should give a far greater sound difference between full shut and full open.

There shouldn't be much increase over standard as the quiet/ non sport side is largely unchanged. Watch this space!

Already having unvalved Larini's, would be interested in an X or H.
I've something against an H though, as Maserati has always fitted an X.
If excess noise is an issue with the X, (I still can't work out why an H would be so much quieter), I am surprised that a silenced X is not available...yah yah I know the standard 4200 is a silenced X, but an X with straight through silencers.
Has anyone actually opened up the 4200 X and had a look inside?

Fit an X and enjoy the sound. BTW, you can get a moderately silenced X, I know because I have one.

I still have my 4200 centre section and back boxes. Happy to donate them for the 4200 development in return for a discount on the GS setup.

Thanks Miles but we don't need 4200 boxes because they have no valves. IMO, you are better off going for aftermarket rather than trying to modify 4200 boxes if only for the weight saving you get by ditching them.
