ULEZ is expanding

Universal Road User Charging has been at least 10 years in the making. A former work colleague was working on it before 2010. The technology wasn’t available then. It will definitely happen in London, otherwise the £250m worth of new ULEZ cameras will be redundant in 3 or 4 years time (assuming all the ULEZ non-compliant cars will have been sold
or scrapped by then).

This is the London Assembly consultation:

At the moment Fuel Duty acts as a distance based charge on road usage. Obviously it doesn’t apply to EVs which seems quite unfair, as they do use the roads and indeed do use fuel even if it is produced by power stations and wind farms.

As EVs become more prevelant, Road User Charging is inevitable for all of us.

Simply; Telematics, it is already a requirement in ALL new vehicles from 2017 to have it. Courtesy of EU as no elected government would impose it on their citizens. It is applied by any manufacturer around the world that wants to sell their cars in Europe. And is just so convenient for any country that wants to activate it at some point in the future. Add to that our willingness to wander around with GPS active and just about any app you have tracking you! Also we even volunteer to have our heart rates monitored by our smart watches and invite cameras and microphones to monitor us in every room with our smart TVs and our ‘enabled assistants’.

Drive an old car and escape it? Ah, well if you have a dash cam or have upgraded your stereo, you have snookered yourself…

Blair and Wee Willy: I have no doubt they own shares in biometric tech companies.

I’m off to make a new analogue foil hat!

I am beginning to think more and more that most of us on here have lived through a blessed time in history ,,,,,with the best era,s of music , and probably the most freedom of choice of consumer goods , add the advancement in motor design and engine development my generation are and were truly blessed , If I get another ten more years of unfettered same I will have no complaints .............just a little bit choked the younger generations wont have what we have had

The thing is with London, it was a dirty city, the place has had great improvements in air quality, apparently salmon now swim up the Thames in London. If at this point you still don’t think the air quality is good enough for you and your family it’s time to move out of London. It’s not London that needs to change anymore, responsibility falls on the individual who’s still unhappy to find another place to live he’s content.

Unfortunately...many miserable people can't escape the thing that makes them miserable. No matter where you go, there you are...as they say.

Bristol now have this charge which would cost me £9 to go into Bristol. But they are sneaking ba4tards as it starts outside the town centre but captures the main car park so not only do you pay for the ULEZ charge you have to pay for parking. Plus no park and ride so you have no option. We have not been since the charge started and Cardiff is now getting our business and actually is a far better place than Bristol these days.

The issue is compounded by a lack of public transport as an alternative.

This also puts pressure on high street retailers. No high street foot fall, no sale. Very shortsighted politics.

Fact.
Only 10% of pollution is caused by private cars, way behind Energy production, large business, residential heating, agriculture and public transport and haulage. Will Khan be looking to tax those sectors I think not!
