No, no. It's not the valves.

OTOH nice discreet components, easy to fix. Good deal

I sent that picture to my hifi guy , he said the same

The only other issue is a scratch on the front which looks like it happened on the way to the auction, the fascia looks like a solid piece of aluminium so I'm hoping it'll polish out

Should do, but you'll lose (I suspect) the anodising and have to polish it all. Which may be no bad thing

Back to the 70s baby

1973 to be precise

Picked this up a few months ago , gave the pots a squirt with switch cleaner, it works perfectly and sounds great , they built things to last back then

Given I seem to have been allocated a lot of low impact free time I have taken the opportunity to digitise my CD collection and make it available for streaming across all devices, I did this years ago but due to disk space and tech limitations at the time didn't go lossless format.

Easy bit setting up a decent NAS with both space, performance and a decent disc failover, hard bit (time wise) rescanning all my CDs. All mobile device access to the NAS was easy but looking for a streamer for the Hi-Fi looked like it was going to cost a fortune and be hard to get a decent device here. However a few chats with some Hi-Fi friends kept pointing me to a cheap but apparently high quality device that would stream from the NAS to the Hi-Fi. The device is no longer in production but a bit of searching on the specialist sites threw one up and it was bought and shipped my Le Mans buddy in the UK who is a big HiFi geek. He set it up on his system replacing his own Naim NDX 2 and he has been blown away, my little streamer has none of the fancy displays, its all controlled by an App, but he reckons the sound is as good has Naim if not better and at a tenth of the price. Just need to get him to pack it back up and send it over so I hear for myself.

Neat. Bet it's almost the same inside :)

Personally I'd not use wireless if you can cable it but...

Hifi priced by the kilo
Saw a Denon DVD5000 at a boot sale , asked how much , he picked it up , said that's heavy , £40 so around £2.50 a kilo

some have just used it as a DAC so I'll look into that but as a CD player it's very good

I am a huge fan of Cyrus stuff. I recall when it was launched in the UK (HiFi was a big thing at school). Current main system is all Cyrus, and has been (not least because I had a mate that worked for them) for nigh on 20 years.

Interested to know what you think :)

Slightly different tack, I picked up a HiFi mag for the first time in many years a few weeks back, as I knew I was going to be waiting for Mrs C and had forgotten my iPad. This amazed me, by reading the 'Top recommendations' type section to know that personal stereos are still a thing. The more I looked, the more sense it made. My phone cannot do high bitrate music, nor does it have a lot a storage (compared to the 100+G of music I have anyway). And the prices looked OK soooo off to ebay.

I grabbed one of these:

And because I didn't like how it played with my Cyrus earbuds (which sound great on my phone) I ended up getting a pair of these as well:

In the pro version as I have something of a track record of destroying headphone cables. (I had hoped to use my old and trusted Etymotics that I unpacked to find out they had gone full GT sticky button syndrome on me)

128Gb micro SD card installed and it's really rather nice. Will certainly be going on my holidays :)
