"Feeding the troll" - bullying or banter?
"You're the one that's wrong" - opinion
"If that's the person you wish to be" - judgement and stereotyping
"You need a filter" - imposing your belief upon others

Whilst I don't necessarily disagree with your post, I'm merely demonstrating that we all think we're right. Just some are more diplomatic in putting the point across. But does that make it any more or less valid?

Thanks for posting exactly what I was thinking. I was going to wait another couple of posts before going to town but thank you for your input. I think he’s what is known as Woke.

made me think of this song...

Not quoting a specific post, or pointing at any specific person, so bear that in mind before you knee jerk a post.

Have to disagree. Of course, that will define me as woke, but there we are. I feel that some of the views and casual comments that have been expressed are overtly racist. The typical response is either one of tolerance because life's been a bit ****, or, in fact less pleasantly, discounted as some kind of fun. Well I don't think it's fun.

I don't think it's about hitting the ignore button any more than it's acceptable for the parents of the delinquent who claim 'he's just boisterous' or 'mis-understood'

I have two people blocked, and it's not for this type of behaviour. Nor is that likely to change.

Make of that what you will.

If you or he think I’m racist then that is your problem, not mine. Please point out where I have been overtly racist and I will explain why you are wrong. Yes, I am middle class, straight, white and male but that doesn’t mean I am, by default, a racist. These days people like Oneball and, it would appear, you are all too quick to default to the racist accusation because you feel offended in some way. That doesn’t automatically mean that I am wrong purely because you take offence. Please point out where I have bullied Oneball or yourself and I will apologise, if you can’t then please stop making unfounded accusations. All this started out because I aired my dislike of Hamilton, the fact he is black DOES NOT MATTER. I dislike him because of his attitude and beliefs, which is my prerogative, and if you read anything else into it, it’s you that is wrong.

Actually, it is your problem not mine. If you can’t see how then that it also your problem. If you’re happy to go through life being offensive and hurting people then that’s also your problem. If you do all of the above and still don’t think it’s your problem, and more over think it’s acceptable, or enjoy it then you’re just a horrible person, but that is still not my problem.

You’re fixating on Hamilton being black, but that’s not the way that you’re demonstrating your racism.

This is racist:
If racism was that rampant in F1 Hamilton wouldn’t have got where he is today; nobody would have given him a job. When I was in the RAF one of the laziest people I knew was of Caribbean/English parents, he did no work because he knew he would never get chopped. He then went for a Virgin interview having done no research or prep, knowing he would get the job because there was so few black pilots around. He did.

You are discriminating against an entire race based on your experience of 1 person. This is racism 101.

Also for clarity, I’m not calling all straight white middle aged men racists by default, firstly because I am one, and secondly because I know that it’s wrong to prejudge people based on those from similar demographics.

bugger me, mountain out of a molehill, there's no racism going on here and everyone's just jumping on the racism bandwagon chant now for no valid reason whatsoever other than they think they are providing/posting some intelligent revelation about racism that we don't know about, get out more instead of judging people you don't actually really know

This isn’t knee jerk; I’m not one of the top posters and don’t spend an inordinate amount of time on here either but, to be completely honest, I haven’t seen anything that has struck me as being overtly racist. Oneball called me racist because I dislike Hamilton with a passion, because of his attitude, and then ran off behind the block button. Then Carranga sticks his oar in and calls me racist for I know not what. When people start throwing the race card about, it creates division, much like ‘taking the knee’ in football, and dislike. I’ve always looked on this forum as being full of ‘mates’ who met up, had a beer, a laugh and joke and took the p!ss. Obviously, it has changed a lot with most on here not having met and who don’t know each other personally. This new ‘wokeness’ is becoming the main problem for forums like this because any banter is taken as offence, and any offence just has to be racism. I just hope the Le Mans trip and the forum road trips just don’t follow suit. It would be a great shame if they did.

I read his post as telling a story about one person and their beliefs and actions. And possibly how they used what they believed to be a situation to their advantage, something that we all do every day, otherwise we wouldn't have the toys that we do.

I guess it all depends on how you want to read a post and what your beliefs are, and possibly what your agenda is.

On a side note, have you ever had an argument via text message or WhatsApp? In my experience it generally goes horribly wrong because all of the amazingly clever points made by either party lack the tonality of voice. It also gets dragged out far longer than it ever should and ultimately gets nowhere - pretty much what we're seeing here, to be honest

Panic over. Worked out it myself. And hey presto, most threads have shrunk by about 80%!
So now we are all guessing who you’ve blocked?

p.s.if you don’t reply I will know it’s me...

I am not being racist; I am merely relating a story about A mixed origin person I have personal experience of because he openly admitted playing the race card. Not all black, OR WHITE, guys play with a straight bat and I was merely pointing that out in the context of the discussion. If you take that to mean that I’m saying all mixed race people are the same then that IS your fault. I meet very few black people these days but the ones I do meet I generally get on very well with, and two of the best pilots I know were of Indian extraction. My ‘fixation’ on Hamilton’s colour is entirely due to the fact that Oneball called me a racist because I can’t stand the guy. He, like you, is making the mistake of applying your thought process to what I’m posting. I’ve flown with, worked with, drunk with, eaten with many black guys and not once have any of my black friends ever called me racist.

This is very clearly an emotive subject.

The desire is for the forum to be a place where people can come and feel welcome and be able to express themselves.

This is a difficult balance, light touch moderation and relies on people trying to build bridges between different ideologies and life views.

It strikes me that real change has only ever happened through constructive feedback and discussion rather than direct confrontation which is all too easy in this type of environment. So I would urge everyone to engage on that basis if they feel it is necessary.

And please, lets talk about cars and what we love about them. There is too little of that these days.

And so another thread descends into a circular argument.

Gentlemen, he who posts last is not the winner of a debate.

This used to be an half decent car forum.
