I'm trying to remember - am I right in thinking that some cars had 2 cats after the manifolds and others had 4?

Correct, though can't remember the details as it's a while since I worked through all of this.

Pete (Safrane) is correct, I had the exhaust built to spec by ProSpeed in Cardiff. 650 quid if I remember correctly. The South African guy who runs the place knows his onions. He can also control the volume so that your neighbours don't kill you.

Interesting, Chris. Somebody's already sorted the most restrictive part of the exhaust and a different version to the other 2 shown on here. Seems like this is easily sorted without having to resort to Larini parts and prices.

My system has Larini sports cats and they look very similar to Chris's with the two thin pipes instead of the squashed section and the two cats downstream. To get a nice sounding everyday system just go for straight through rears (with the standard centre box) as Frank says. If you get a set of GS boxes modified to SM standard it will sound very similar to mine.

I have the feeling mine was put together in homage to the larini system, but the welding seems a little more primitive. Does the job, I guess...

All it does is get exhaust gasses out of the back. I don't think it really matter s what it looks like as long as it has a big hole all the way through!

Here you go. 3200 GT with QTP electronic cutouts, hard to see on this picture but I have a H pipe where the old catalytic silencer used to be.

Jeez that must be loud!

I find mine more than loud enough as it is! Granted, I have straight throughs on the back.

Ross,
If you have straight through's on the back, do you get any drone at all in the cabin with the windows closed..?? Is the rest of your system standard..??

To be honest I'm not sure what "drone" is! I never feel the need to crack a window open due to the noise being so bad in the cabin.

1000-2000 rpm its a lovely low rumble.
2000-3000 it feels like its building up and is increasing in noise
3000-4000 you start getting into the revs
4000-6000 you cannot stop smiling
6000+ Hello? I might have just had a crisis!!

At lift off you get a bit of overrun and burbles.
The sound is always epic.

Going through the hindhead tunnel keeping the revs high, I had a grown man driving his family in his Volvo, lean his head full out of the car, do a sort of head bang and give me the thumbs up!

The system is completely standard other than this. I think it is mighty loud enough and would not want to change anything more.

One the "drone" the important thing to note is that you have made your car exhaust considerably louder. You will therefore always hear it whatever revs you are at. This noise changes in loudness and in pitch. I would not cause any of these drone.

Personally, I could not imagine my car without this modification now. It's like it has "released" the beautiful noise of the V6.

I suppose you really need a drive in one...at Christmas?

Ross,
OK you are on, it would be a change to try a V6, I have not driven one of those before..??:capricorn:
We will do a swap for a bit and I think Matt wants a drive in mine too to see if there are differences, let's do it before we start on the liquid refreshments though..!!

Rob, I was planning to drive you around. I don't even let the wife drive my car. Haha. To be honest I'd be more scared about driving anyone else's car on just Third Party insurance and something happening - that would certainly ruin Christmas.

I assure you its a V8, it says so on the side, there's these little badges! Let's see how we go at the Christmas meet.

Ross,
OK mate, I thought that suggestion might get your lips puckering a bit, hahaha, a quick run round would at least let me hear what you have and give me a guide. We could always adopt the "You bin it you buy it"..!!!!
