I know it's a business Frank but its the fans that keep it alive.......Without them its nothing...........They are truly out of touch with the people that support this sport.......SOme will no doubt have SKY Sports and it will not matter and some will pay but why would I pay around £150 a year to watch half the GP races........They will loose fans who have followed the sports for years and just cannot afford SKY..............This is truly shocking and I'm sure the powers that be will think it will be rough to begin with but then fans will get used to it and pay.............One thing for sure the local pubs with SKY will have see their takens go up on a Sunday.

My old man is in the category you describe there Andy, No way would he entertain Sky, couldn't afford it and wouldn't go 'down the pub' to watch it so he will just wait & watch the highlights programs...

Mind you he is 15 years older than Berni at 87 so Berni probably doesn't see him as target audience!

Andy...they did it with the premier league........and then the cricket............why not F1.......they are happy to right off the 10-20% who will resolutely never sign up....but quite a few will......result!

The sport, races, sponsors are mostly over subscribed.........fans do nothing to defend them selves.

We get what we deserve......no different to the press we deserve!!!

Who wants to pay extra for anything.........captive market........Rupert et al have been proven right in taking all these gambles.....investing 100s millions.......

100000s don't like it ....but 2-3 million will put up with it and pay up.......

Completely agree Andy. It's bl**dy infuriating. I don't subscribe to Sky or any of it's ilk because I'm d@mned if I'm going to pay twice to watch television, and potentially 500 notes to boot! In this instance I don't blame Gollumstone, he sells TV rights, that's what he does, but for the BBC to jump ship half way through the contract is unforgivable, and then to read Barbara Slater calling a cobbled together deal with Sky a victory for the non-subscribing viewers is scandalous...

I see it's being picked up on all the motoring forums I've checked, and Brundle's already commented, so I think this will gather some momentum. Won't be enough to change anything I'm sure, but hopefully enough to demonstrate a widespread displeasure.

Bernie 1.......Fans 0.......

Fans don't count.......some one here will know the figures.......80% revenue from big teams/sponsors.......they only cover track costs etc on the day by letting fans in.......

Bl**dy h£ll P, that's a completely grim attitude? Of course the fans count. Yes the broadcasting revenues are greater than the gate, but to say the fans don't matter just isn't true. One begets the other and the other is meant to cater to the one. They're reliant on each other.

Oh and don't forget we are forced by law to be shareholders in the non-elected behemoth that the BBC has become, yet they are able to do entirely as they please without the shareholders having any meaningful redress.

Miles, the fans don't matter and you can see the same thing happening in football. It's the corporate hospitality which caters for big business that matters not the fans. As long as the revenue comes in they don't care where it comes from and catering for 50 exec boxes is easier than for 2500 fans. If you can get the two going together great, but theres a lot more more money in corporate entertainment. Ticket prices for the British GP go up every year and more and more 'ground-floor fans' get squeezed out but more and more helicopters appear.

With benny on the football thing.....man city are the new team, they were relegated 6 years ago, now they are the richest club in the world, only today they signed a player for.............90m.........

The fans of the club are complaining that they cant get tickegs as they are selling to tourist and corporate companies, those who had season tickets all their lives now cant afford the prices.....its wrong....these arabs dont care....will make a profit when selling on.....football has changed.....
Bbc will never get that back as they cant afford what its now charging....sky pay upto 20m a year to individual teams....

When Sky gets involved it changes from a sport to a business. End of story.
