Well done Matt. Awesome work. I hope the head is in tune with the effort now. Half way done. All 'down hill' from here and you can begin to look forward to the end. I tip my hat to you.

Day 7 done! It was supposed to be an easy day with just a few hills, like bollox it was. After a wet start, inasmuch I got wet putting the bike frame on the car and sorting out Matts bike whereas Matt started after the rain had stopped(!) it was uphill after uphill after uphill; I almost felt sorry for him. Almost but not quite! We are off into Bergerac for our evening meal and a few beers. Have a good one!

A big French castle; the complete absence of any battle damage indicates it usually surrenders before the shooting starts!

Teddy joined in today with a cup of coffee which had the trip mantra on the side! ;)

Day 7:

Yes, to reiterate Bennys comments it was almost a hill too far. What started off as a damp one, cleared and turned into an uphill workout. Its tough going but thats 7 days down with 5 to go, getting the feeling I can actually do this now! More of the same tomorrow and the weather has definately turned. Teddy has been out and showing signs of getting stuck in, I think we are going to have to watch this fella as the signs are there that he is not as innocent as we first thought.

Looks Like you, Benny and Teddy will be cosy in that Bed!

Well done for today, you are on the "down hill" now, mentally puts you in a good place as the end is always closer than the start now!

Not sure how much you meant it but thats a good photo, IMO, remark about French Castles is spot on - my sentiments exactly - nearly as bad as Belgium!!

Good work, Matt. I'm in awe, mate. That's a helluva ride. How's Ben shaping up as a motivational coach?

Really impressive Matt, especially for doing it alone. There's a huge difference in not having someone there to share the effort of riding into the wind, and to provide mutual support when it gets tough. Really sorry I'm not there to help you mate...

Hope the weather stays kind!!

F*cking ace mate. I constantly have to tell him to stop moaning and crack on as the bike won't pedal itself and, tbh, that's the only reason I brought him along!

Day 8/12 done. Matt cracked on today after a leisurely start and got through it pretty quickly. Not too much on the hill front apart from the drag up to the hotel. It started to rain about 8 miles before the end but its p!ssing it down now so a lucky escape. Teddy was asleep for much off the day and didn't come out but I have a feeling he will be back out to play tomorrow!

Brits abroad; well brew up where we dam well please!

Well done again Matt looks like you really are pushing through the pain to complete this task.

And we should also all feel for poor Benny, mile after mile of French countryside with nothing better than French food and beer at the end - it must be killing him ;)

Day 8:

Yes, Benny has pretty much summed it up, a standard day with a splattering of rain. We have an 81 miler tomorrow so we headed off to Bordeaux for dinner and then returned at 8 to get early nights. Not too much uphill tomorrow but 81 miles with my tired legs is a big ask at the moment.

Tripped over in Bordeaux tonight and thought I had twisted my ankle but thankfully it walked itself off!

The stuffing of Chelsea 1:3 at The Bridge by my beloved Saints yesterday has kept me mostly smiling :)

That result kept me smiling too......
Keep up the good work Matt, your putting footballers to shame, remember Lineker hurting his toe and not playing for a few weeks? Your cycling 80miles a day...excellent
