SM Apple CarPlay / Android Auto

I can’t say I noticed any difference on the sound. But it is more convenient to connect via BT.

Hi Matt thanks for the reply.... OK i guess the wireless dongle doesn't restrict you to where you can have the phone etc... i notice that you say you cant charge and run dongle... is there no way at all?

would this connector work.... plugging the dongle into one and then charger in the other?

What he means is that you need a seperate charger when connected via BT. You can actually charge the phone. If you have the wired connection this does charge the phone at the same time as connecting.

Ahhhhh that makes sense, in other words have the hardwired usb cable from the unit done to charge the phone and then the BT Dongle somewhere in the car? Sounds good, when would the order potentially be made?

I have to admit I haven’t had cause to be concerned about the sound quality. I’m probably deaf :p
Huh interesting - I’m no audiophile, and while I’m sure someone will be along to say the OEM Bose sound system is **** anyways, I’m more than happy with it. Playing a CD or the rare times the Maserati USB iPod cable worked, the sound was punchy enough for me

To be clear, what I’m saying is that when my iPhone is connected to the CarPlay (and this was also the case when I simply ran a single audio cable from the AUX jack to the iPhone headphone jack pre CarPlay) it sounds “tinny” ... hardly any bass, and I really have to crank the volume up to hear it.

Paul says this is the way it is given the system config - does any one else have a similar experience ? Is there some iPhone EQ setting that I’m missing ?

Ah, I don’t have bose so I can’t comment but it certainly sounds like a setting issue.

If you go to settings > Music > EQ you can adjust the balance of the sound from your phone.

thanks Zep, when I said Bose I meant the speakers - the unit is the same MM one that most people have (and that works with the CarPlay kit).

I'll have a look into the settings on the phone

Does the new dongle work with Android?, as I thought android auto wireless uses WiFi not Bluetooth. (Unless this new dongle is WiFi also)

If you’re running aftermarket amps, worth looking at this:

Signal out is rubbish. After I installed this, ran the auto config, sound quality is so much better, with a fuller range. There’s further tweaking via a laptop if you want. It’ll give you as good and clean a signal as you’re going to get while retaining the original head unit.

Paul from Prestige installed mine yesterday. Works very well. Unfortunately the forum member that sold me his ‘brand new in box set that he never got round to fitting’ neglected to tell me that the glass touch screen was damaged and cracked! Really poor behaviour.
Paul is trying to source another screen.
Sadly that's not the kind of behavior that happens on the forum.
I hope you get it easily resolved.

Not been back through all 30 pages - did conaero make reference to some of the components arriving damaged? Maybe some of the test kit? Cant recall but have a vague recollection of something like that.

Thanks, I'm not running after market amps but may be worth looking into

just as an update on my post, I plugged my wife's iPhone in (a 6s vs my 8) and it sounded much better! Same connection (e.g thru the lightning cable), same software (13.1.2) on both phones, same settings in Music etc

I've got a new 11 pro on the way so hopefully that will make a difference

Suspect that will sort it!
