Getting the defib out for this thread, would an AGM battery be better suited for the Granturismo if only used on the odd weekend? Any up to date recommendations on this subject?
Nope. Charging differences/needs and do not hold the charge any longer than a standard. No point.Getting the defib out for this thread, would an AGM battery be better suited for the Granturismo if only used on the odd weekend? Any up to date recommendations on this subject?
After 8 years, the advice of Lord Sir Hodroyd, DfG, KOS holds true.Any battery with a 5 year guarantee is well worth the money, if it goes, change it for free..!!
Regarding Tanya, to keep their prices low they have a tough returns policy. Postage paid by the buyer, they test and if it is good enough (but maybe not good enough for a Maserati) then no dice. Other supplier may be more malleable.
Regarding AGM, we have seen that if you take leave of your senses and buy a battery from Maserati, they will supply an AGM. But as to whether this results in better performance / longer life or is simply because they use them for other models is an open question.
So - is there a definitive go-to battery for the Granturismo?
100ah, but which brand/model?
My recent purchase always starts no problem but I have had a few dashboard errors which clear after it’s been on the Ctek overnight.
I’d rather not have the embarrassment or worry of getting a ‘airbag failure - go to dealer’ or ‘suspension failure- go to dealer’ message on the dash. - especially if already unnapproving wife is in the car.
It’s also worrying to think my airbags might not operate should the worst happen when the error is showing.
thanks
I know this is an old thread but personally I would avoid Tayna batteries at all cost. They may often be cheaper but when there is a fault (which my battery had) they were VERY difficult to deal with and I ended up buying another battery from another company and surprise the new battery worked. This was after I had to return the battery to them ant my cost. Ironically the tayna one is still under warranty but they are totally disinterested. Cheap is not necessarily better!!!!!!After 8 years, the advice of Lord Sir Hodroyd, DfG, KOS holds true.
Get a battery with a long warranty and keep the receipt. Tape it to the battery in a plastic bag and they'll replace it if it fails within that period. What's not to like?
Looking at the list at Tayna, battery prices have been fairly static in 8 years. The Exide EA1000 looks good with 100Ah of capacity and 900A cold cranking current (I refuse to use the term Amperage!) for £89 +£9 delivery.

The benefit of an AGM battery is that it can survive multiple deep cycles without loosing capacity. Thats why they are used on cars with stop start techcnology and cars with a lot of electrics such as heated seats, big audio installs, keyless entry etc.Regarding AGM, we have seen that if you take leave of your senses and buy a battery from Maserati, they will supply an AGM.
