Recommendations for replacement battery on Granturismo

The benefit of an AGM battery is that it can survive multiple deep cycles without loosing capacity. Thats why they are used on cars with stop start techcnology and cars with a lot of electrics such as heated seats, big audio installs, keyless entry etc.

I went through a few standard batteries on my Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo because of deep cycling losses. I only drive the car a couple of times a month and because it is parked outside I cant use a trickle charger. So while it is parked up the battery is continually drained by the alarm etc. Each time it is drained it looses some of its capacity to fully recharge, so eventually it dies :(

I ended up buying an Ultima Yellow Top AGM battery and it has completely solved the problem - even if nearly flat it re-charges back to full power every time. I would highly recommend one to anyone who only occasionaly uses their car and cant use a trickle charger.

Not all AGM batteries are like the Yellowtop. It has cylindrical cells rather than flat ones. It’s fully sealed.

Your battery is lasting better, not because it is AGM, but because it is higher quality.

A Maserati AGM battery is made by FIAMM. Ask anyone who works with batteries what they think about that.

Yes the Yellow top is another step up in terms of technology. But even standard AGM batteries are a step up from traditional lead acid batteries :)

Interesting the wife’s Fiat 500X which is nearing 10 years old has been showing some odd errors of late. Parking break, start/stop 4x4 system unavailable. The car started every time without issue.

It got passed to me (again) for free fixing. Lifting the bonnet revealed the original fitment FIAT AGM (FIAMM?) battery.

I had literally just bought a new Exide EFB for my third Giulietta, though lob it in and problems fixed.

Just goes to show battery issues can manifest in different cars in different ways.

Guess I better order another EFB from Tayna as I have no hope of getting that back.

FIAMM claim on their website that the average life expectancy on their batteries is 12 years.
From my many years on the spanners I've found that the original battery seems to outlast any replacement put on after regardless of the Make of the Vehicle.

My MC 2010 Granturismo still had its factory fitted battery in until 2019
What did you replace it with? Same thing for me, my the original battery in my 2011 GT lasted 9 years. It currently has a FIAAM AGM battery, if it gives up in a year or so I will fit a non agm Varta or Exide, if it lasts another 4 or 5 years, well that's different and I may replace it with another AGM.

I do use a Ctek, but only during winter storage, and even then only once a week, then I let the voltage decay. When the car is ready for use, I don't use the ctek, but drive it 2 or 3 times a week. I've no idea how the previous owners used the ctek, I only know it had the connections already on it when I bought the car

For those in Asia, I just changed mine to an Amaron Pro DIN100. Not an AGM, but the CCA is high such that it cranks faster than the previous battery.

I need a new battery. I read here that the Bosch Silver 95 is great for the QPV. I wondered if the forum members had a view on what is the best for a 2008 Granturismo pls? Thanks.
I fitted Bosch Car Battery 0092S50130, 3 years ago to my Granturismo and it's been perfect.

My bmw i3 started throwing all manor of error including drivetrain. Quick Google suggested the 12v at fault. Changed it and all faults disappeared. £100 for a tiny battery , though I did but from bmw as allegedly your meant to tell the car exactly which battery has gone in, something to do with charging cycle. Just had to make sure disconnect the high voltage connectors first

I actually carry a spare large car battery in the garage as never know when the qp or range rover will.decide to flatten it's battery if not used for a week or so. I've the socket set next to it so a 3 min job to change to qp battery

There's load of videos on YouTube:

You'll need a basic socket set to remove the bracing bar and bottom brackets.
