Getting the defib out for this thread, would an AGM battery be better suited for the Granturismo if only used on the odd weekend? Any up to date recommendations on this subject?

Nope. Charging differences/needs and do not hold the charge any longer than a standard. No point.

Any battery with a 5 year guarantee is well worth the money, if it goes, change it for free..!!
After 8 years, the advice of Lord Sir Hodroyd, DfG, KOS holds true.

Get a battery with a long warranty and keep the receipt. Tape it to the battery in a plastic bag and they'll replace it if it fails within that period. What's not to like?
Looking at the list at Tayna, battery prices have been fairly static in 8 years. The Exide EA1000 looks good with 100Ah of capacity and 900A cold cranking current (I refuse to use the term Amperage!) for £89 +£9 delivery.

Regarding AGM, we have seen that if you take leave of your senses and buy a battery from Maserati, they will supply an AGM. But as to whether this results in better performance / longer life or is simply because they use them for other models is an open question.

I fell into the returns trap with a battery for my some car.
In future so will but from local store, even Halfords, as returns are much more straight forward.

The Continental also had an AGM as well as a standard LA. No idea why though but given the (over) sophisticated power management system, it would probably be a foolish thing to opt for a different one.

So I had a look and the battery currently in is a Maserati FIAMM L5 AGM. Unhelpfully the dates haven't been marked so no real way of telling the age unless there is a hidden trick I'm missing? It seems to hold charge OK, occasionally 3 weeks of no use and still starts first time.

So - is there a definitive go-to battery for the Granturismo?
100ah, but which brand/model?

My recent purchase always starts no problem but I have had a few dashboard errors which clear after it’s been on the Ctek overnight.

I’d rather not have the embarrassment or worry of getting a ‘airbag failure - go to dealer’ or ‘suspension failure- go to dealer’ message on the dash. - especially if already unnapproving wife is in the car.
It’s also worrying to think my airbags might not operate should the worst happen when the error is showing.

thanks

I replaced mine with a Yuasa HSB110 Silver 12V from Halfords which comes with a 5 Year guarantee. To be honest I based my purchase on the 5 year guarantee and also knowing it would be easier to return it should it go dead.

If I'm not using the car for over a week I just disconnect the negative terminal via the quick release. When I reconnect it, I don't get any fault codes etc.

Random question on batteries:

After much searching on here I have ordered a Bosch S15 019 (444 770 198) for my 2013 GranTurismo Sport.

My wife collected the battery from Euro Car Parts today, and it would appear they have given her a S5 013 (600 402 083) instead?

Now I have no idea what the numbers mean, and it still states 100Ah and 830A on the top.

The invoice states in small letters “Alternate part S5 013”, so I’m guessing it’s ok?

Yeah so I hit the bullet and installed it anyway. Works a treat, and as a bonus the 30 minute disconnection made the AUX cable for my iPhone work! :D
