Are you sure people were not just laughing at you?

;)

Only on the regular walk back up the road to collect the mangled remanence of exhaust pipe that would fall off every few months! It was a bargain at £5k new! it was a post-production, parts bin vehicle, so had all sorts of weird things either missing or added, like no fuel cut off on the carb so from the get go it popped and crackled on over-run. It was such a revvy engine and got thrashed daily but yes it would raise a titter from those that knew...

Ah yes, there was a stupid so called brake balancer fitted on the rear axle, I'm sure it worked on a panda or other short wheelbase car but on a longer wheelbase it was hopeless, basically it was a spring onto a valve, if the ar$e lifted it took the rear brakes off!

Take a look through the old glossy magazine's back then and see what used luxury you could have had for 5 bags of sand.
Just incase any of you are in Government I don't mean Fiesta or Razzle ;)

My dad had a regatta in the 80's/90's and wondered why it was so cheap. He said it was gutless engine-wise.
As for FIAT Weekends, excellent second-hand buys as they'd deprecated so much after 3 years. Would have been a good workhorse for my dad as he always bought estates. Joiner by day, family man at weekends.

They did it with lots of engine variants, they even put a 1 litre in it! They went on to make them under several other badges for a few years, I think it was Lada and SEAT, all the taxis in Turkey were basically Regatta's re-badged.
