Oh my God, I bought a Gransport!

I would have one and fully intend to get one (A GS) . It doesn't stop me expressing my opinion that I prefer a manual box over any electronic gadgetry. Just like I prefer phono to CD, analogue watch to digital. One day when you grow up Mark you will realise that I was right all along. And also when prices of manual cars as opposed to auto's and semi-auto's go up you will again know I am right :)

Then the gearbox selector cables will go and you will wish you had the CC gearbox. ;)
I don't miss a manual gearbox. I miss a little the physical satisfaction of moving the gear lever through the gate.

The only thing I have found that I can't do with a CC gearbox that you can with a manual is when you may want to dip the clutch and coast.
If your in stop start traffic in a manual you can coast a few feet and then if the traffic starts to move again then you can select the gear and off you go again. You can't do the same with a CC box. You can coast in nuetral but if the traffic suddenly moves again you have to stop before you can select a gear to start moving again.

I also wish they had put in the facility to pull both paddles to get to neutral and then pull both paddles again to select reverse then up once to get back to 1st gear. It would make parking and 3 point turn manouvers faster and easier. No worn spring issues on the reverse gear selector either.

So todays expenditure was:

2 x Goodyear Tyres at £220! Couldn't find the Uniroyal tyres I have anywhere so have to change 2 when only one is duff! The Uniroyal Rainsport rear tyre was split so heads up for those shopping for tyres..It wasn't a puncture..

New rubber insert for spare key = £25

Power Steering Radiator = £200

Engine, Gearbox/Diff, Power Steering Oils = £167

Oil filter about £20 (reasonable?) and Air filter about £40 (reasonable?).

Plus labour (haven't had the bill yet!)

Oh well I'll keep going as long as I can afford it.

£25 for the rubber part in a key? I'd have a word about that, they were a fiver a year ago!

Exactly makes revving a PITA. Also how about those launches after revving? No didn't think you could drop the clutch at 4k rpm in order to swing the back end out and grab the car by the scruff of the neck as it were. In fact I'd imagine doing a dry start pull away sideways would be nigh on impossible in a CC, although I managed it on the grass in Mav's CC in Le Mans but doubt it would do that on dry tarmac!

I would, I recently got a track rod and boot kit from Maranello in Egham, they matched eurospares price. I've learned to always try a main dealer, it's always surprising, sometimes in a good way...

I think maybe owning these cars is like being an alcoholic or expensive drug user. You just hide how much your spending from everyone including yourself. Everyones in denial!

If I pull both paddles in traffic and coast, when I pull my up paddle it engages the correct gear for the residual speed, I do NOT have to stop before engaging gear!

That's interesting. I've tried it a few times in traffic and it didn't engage a gear. So I gave up trying. Yours is a facelift model as well so they should have the same gearbox software on them. I will have to try it again when I've got a road to myself

Can anyone else confirm if they can select a gear when coasting in a 4200 with a CC gearbox ?

Agree Mike, the CC is smarter than some think. I was a massive manual hater before I bought my CC only Gransport and am now converted. You can change from 6th to 2nd just by flicking the paddle 4 times. That's faster than a manual change unless you're Tommy Makinen.

You can definitely select a gear when coasting, but only over a certain speed. The car will select the correct gear for the speed. I've found that at low speed dropping into neutral from 1st and then selecting 1st again can confuse it a little and it will engage with a heavy thump. Marios advised me not to drop the car into neutral when moving unless coming to a complete stop.

Below about 3mph you have to press the brake pedal enough to activate the switch to get a gear but with practice this does not mean stopping :)

You can also 'hooligan rev' by pulling both paddles at any speed and then re-engage a gear by just letting go of one paddle, keeping hold of the left gives you one down from previous the right returns to previous :D

Thats two new CC things i've learnt today. The times i've tried selecting first while coasting in neutral have probably been below 3 mph which would explain why i couldn't grab first gear without stopping. The times i have tried it were all in stop start traffic where i was expecting to come to a complete stop and then the traffic moved again leaving me braking when everyone else had started to go again. one occasion was on the downward side of barton bridge so just wanted to coast it a 5 ft in stop start traffic and then the jam cleared with me having to stop to get a gear. I shall try again during my next trident adventure. :)

#FirstWorldProblem

Glad this threads gone off topic though. As I had the same problem with coasting then engaging first.

I knew reading through the endless waffle on here would eventually be useful.

Yep, QPs do this too, as did the Spyder I recently sold.
