Manual for complete driver involvement and ability to drop from 6th to 2nd if and when needed.

There are times i still yearn for a manual in my GS (if such a thing existed!) The GS is my first paddle shift car and it took quite a bit of getting used to, particularly in stop start traffic conditions.

Having said that when i actually get a nice clear bit of road to push on a little i like the fact that the cambio corsa shifts so quickly and allows me to concentrate on the road ahead without worrying about rev matching downshifts etc. I still haven't tired of timing my downshifts to match the moment i pass cars on the inside lane with their windows down...

Swings and roundabouts i guess. The gearbox is part of the character of the car and gives it personality.

It's the future! More and more cars will become paddle shift, only difference in our cars is the clutch work has been robotised.

Old tech now really and more and more people will hanker after a manual box or at least the drivers and purists will.

I have had robotic clutched Cars before in the M5 and DSG GTi and liked then but always prefer going back to a manual box. Why did BMW release the M3 and M4 in manual box? Why did the f-type after release come in manual flavour? Because there is a demand for them!

I enjoy paddle driving but as I said for me you cannot beat a manual and clutch.

Clearly someone else that doesn't understand what can be done with the CC. :)

You can drop from 6th to 1st if you so desire. Although it's probably not recommended, and the box will intervene if you're going to break the readline, but other than that there is nothing I can see that the CC box stops you doing.

Of course you can drop gear but you have to wait as you downshift through each one!

On track the CC and any paddle system is better simply because it steadies the car but on the twisties and road for me it is the manual, I like to row my car! :)

What on *earth* gives you that idea! ;)

It's simply not true. Just pull the paddle two, three, four, even five times fast. It skips the intervening gears and goes straight for the target.

I know it skips them! It doesn't go from 6 to 2 directly like when you move your arm from 6 to 2! You have to pull the number of times on the downshifter!!!!

But it still only takes 100ms plus paddling time. It does go from 6 to 2, as long as you've not waited so long between tugs for it to start going for 5th (if that makes sense)

So total time = 100ms + maybe 300ms to bang the paddle n times. That's still faster than I can make it from 6th to 2nd, and certainly it will *average* faster :)

Phil needs a series of weak arguments to keep telling himself he likes his 3200, when we all know what he really wants is a GranSport!!

I would have one and fully intend to get one (A GS) . It doesn't stop me expressing my opinion that I prefer a manual box over any electronic gadgetry. Just like I prefer phono to CD, analogue watch to digital. One day when you grow up Mark you will realise that I was right all along. And also when prices of manual cars as opposed to auto's and semi-auto's go up you will again know I am right :)
