Newbie introduction :)

Afternoon all,

Thought it only right I post a brief introduction as I have spent several hours (of several days, of several months during 2011!) gaining irreplaceable knowledge from all the current forum posters and to do so without passing my thanks to all would feel a little like theft!

I just picked up my 2001 3200Gt this Saturday; I am her second owner (her original owner is a long standing colleague's brother) and thought it a good occassion to register myself in the owners community as with all Maserati owners, I would imagine this will become a venue frequented on a near daily basis.

I will also preapologise for the inevitable newbie questions which I will no doubt be asking; I am a keen petrol head but my knowledge is primarily theoretical as opposed to well practiced, so before looking at even the most minor of jobs, I would like to be sure I know what I am doing and why I am doing it!

Look forward to utilising (and eventually, hopefully contributing!) to the knowledge basis that is these forums.

Thanks Parisien,

I have spent the past 4+ months waiting to sort everything out so needless to say I have had a perma-grin engrained on my face since I collected her on Saturday. I am sure to fire endless questions as I start to spend a bit more time learning all there is to know about her, so they will no doubt follow.

PS> I share your regard for this forum- a real bank of endless knowledge and enthusiasts who always seem happy to help; it was a large contributor to me making the step into Maserati ownership! :)

Welcome Ben, most has been said already but this is a great community the more active members we can keep the better it will get....

I'm sure it is only a matter of time before the 'Lancet' runs an article about a newly discovered syndrome of fixed smileing caused by Maserati encounters!

Thanks guys- a very warm welcome greatly received!! The car is currently sat on axle stands as the wheels have been sent for sandblasting/repainting/lacquering etc.. In the meantime, she is getting all the detailing she needs to bring her back to her former glory - she's been sat on a London road outside the prior owners house for the past 10 years and I would imagine she's never seen a clay bar and some hard work! I assure you all, pictures will follow once she's fully prepared!!

In the meantime, I'll start prepping my endless list of questions!! Thanks again to all -

A relentlessly smily, Ben

Hi Relentlessly Smily Ben, Welcome to the forum and congratulations on now owning a stunning motor car. Looking forward to hearing of your experiences, but as Parisien mentions, watch the turbo's, especially as Winter's acomin'. Squirrelling is good. Wrapping it around the squirrels home isn't so good.

Very valid points!! I will be treating her with all the respect she deserves - particularly over the winter months ahead! I went from a naturally aspirated, 4WD mark 4 Golf R32 so grip was seemingly endless and power delivery very controlable, which of course will differ hugely to the 3200Gt!! I'm a timber trader job wise, so looking at trees in a plantation forest somewhere in Scandinavia is about as close as I want to be getting to the squirrels natural habitat- particularly if I'm with car!! :)

Mark 4 - always thought it looked better than the 5 in my humble opinion! You have/had one yourself Adam?

Nothing to add, just a humble welcome from Holland Ben.

And i think Parisien is right: This is the best Maserati forum i have found on the net by far.
The USA collegues at Maseratilife are very close though. (just mho of course)
But especially the nice atmosphere around here is great to experience.
Would like to meet the guys here during theire Ace cafes, but there sadly is quite a lot of water between us.
And i am afraid you guys want to keep it that way.

Hi Boomerang - thanks for the welcome :) There may be a splash of water between us, but that said I'm sure there are plenty of driver focussed routes that could be found on route to the channel tunnel crossing if a summer trip was ever on the cards? I will be hoping to attend one of the meets once the car is back to her absolute best!

I've been reading these forums relentlessly over the past few months and from what I read, you're the man to speak to when it comes to addressing the contactless TB upgrade which all recommend? The car idle's evenly at the minute, it's only got 34500 miles odd on the clock so all be it I think it will be something I do relatively soon, I may be looking more at Spring next year as opposed to in the immediate short term. Can you tell me a little more about it if you get a minute? Also an indication of the prices involved would be great so I can add it to my list of things to buy instead of food/drink over the next few months! :)

(aghast) How can you say that Luuk we paid our fair share of the tunnel , but then as always the powers that be had the great wisdom and foresight (not) to let the blooody french run and control things , just maybe why we are overrun with with all and sundry ,

After all these years i still dont get ........... or hear any ordinary uk citizen (other than a politician on the gravy train) say one single positive thing about how we as a nation will be or have been better off in joining europe, after 30 years of the fiasco im still waiting

A seasoned traveller/expat from the 60's onwards ive experienced first hand work and play in all the european countries first hand , and great places they are too but do i want to intergrate with them **** NO i want to remain how i was born british , and not a euro citizen ,

Weve been sold it on the idea that its better for uk jobs and trade , what a load of old tosh so deliveries and tranport are a bit cheaper and nearer so what , i strongly feel this government should reconcile with a referendum (which would say pull out totally) and then help industry /manufacturing with grants subsidies etc to expand their markets further afield , instead of pouring infinite amounts of money supporting an ideology that was always doomed

Phew where did that come from.............................obviously lurking under the surface for quite a while

Forgot the tunnel....went to the UK last time over the water and was very happy to see "the White Cliffs of Dover" myself for the first time from the deck of the ferrie.

I can absolutely understand your feelings, as this discussion is going on here as well.
But time and time again we are told by experts and politicians, especially Holland has gained a lot by the euro, while every common citizen sais/feels the opposite.
I am afraid europe will not come over the current problems and some very unpleasant steps will have to be taken.
The common civillian wil have to pay for all of the miscalculations and stupidities of all those experts and politicians i am afraid.
AGAIN.
Grrr.
