Forgot the tunnel....went to the UK last time over the water and was very happy to see "the White Cliffs of Dover" myself for the first time from the deck of the ferrie.

I can absolutely understand your feelings, as this discussion is going on here as well.
But time and time again we are told by experts and politicians, especially Holland has gained a lot by the euro, while every common citizen sais/feels the opposite.
I am afraid europe will not come over the current problems and some very unpleasant steps will have to be taken.
The common civillian wil have to pay for all of the miscalculations and stupidities of all those experts and politicians i am afraid.
AGAIN.
Grrr.

Ferry to be honest always feels to me the best way to travel abroad , it gives a sense of occasion to the start of something epic , whereas the tunnel is a lot quicker, more convenient and less traumatic for our expensive toys but a tad boring if im honest

regards loz

Agreed; nothing quite starts a European excursion like the anxious feeling of pulling off the ferry ramps and heading off on the wrong side of the road - plus the added benefit of a bit of fresh sea air to wake the senses prior to hitting the roads! Roll on next summer when I can take the car somewhere warmer/brighter so she can been seen/heard/driven with an even bigger grin than the one already tattooed across my chops! :)

Exactly - not to mention the rediculously high price tag on the new 'R'. Mark 4 is definitely the favourite in my humble opinion, and having spent 4 months trying to sell mine (which finally sold 10 days back!) the price for them has dropped massively over the past 12 months! A real fun car- they certainly come highly recommended having had mine for 2 and a half years or so, but as noted - only with the V6 up front!

Yes the price of the new one is mental, went past the local VW dealer the other day, Golf R on the forecourt for.............................wait for it..............................£40k. 40K for a Golf!!!!! mental.

Thanks Mr Cambio & Enzo - have absolutely no doubt I will be enjoying the community, almost as much as the car itself! :)

As for the Golf Adam..... £40k is unreal!! It doesnt take long to draw up a list of well maintained, low mileage used alternatives with several times the prestige/performance/driving fun does it?!! Dont expect to be seeing so many of the new 'R' s on the road at prices like that!! No - I'll happily stick to my 3200Gt and take great pleasure as I pass the R's with that low growling burble of the V8, and for significantly less money spent! ;)

Welcome Ben and enjoy your car, best value on the road our V8's certainly the best money i have ever spent.
Just get out there and drive her grinning all the time.
Phil.

Exactly the plan Phil, and thanks for the welcome. I picked her up last Saturday but she is currently on axle stands whilst the alloys get sandblasted/repainted etc and the wheel nuts get rechromed. Still - gives me another week or so to clay her down and get some well needed detailing finished so she can be back to her best!! Just the thought of her being mine is enough to put a perma-grin on my face, so roll on the return of the wheels so I can get her on the road and have some fun!! (Not the best time of year for it, but manageable fun will have to do until Spring arrives I guess!) :)

A warm welcome Ben, you should enjoy the banter and good advice. You are not far away from me, maybe we can meet for a compare and coffee one day. Watch these roads though when they are a bit damp, a lot of grunt under your right foot. Enjoy.
