Very nice; it has a hard 'edge' to it and a lovely line in pops and crackles. A very good first attempt at trying to replicate a Maserati on open pipes! I came back through one of the Mersey tunnels with my mate in his V8S and it was epic; dozens of scousers had their day made right there!

But... who does it better? Must be Maserati. Nobody does exhaust pops and bangs better than Maserati... do they..?

I have sat in one and they are pleasant, the boot on the rag top is small and a weird shape..!! I have been offered a 24 hour loan test drive, so I will do that shortly and see what it's like..!!

Absolutely nothing Dem, they are fantastic cars. What we have here is an irrational, entrenched dislike much the same as I have with Alfa. Never liked them, never owned one and never will yet some people love them. Horses for courses, it's what makes the world a more interesting place.

If you want the best driving experience go for the V6S, if you want noise and lairy oversteer, go for the V8S with the active exhaust. Either way, i think you'll like it. I did, a lot!

OK Benny, thanks for the tips..!!
Dave,
I have owned quite a few Jags in the past and found them excellent for what they were, I have driven a number of their sports cars and sports saloons over the years and have never been dissapointed, bearing in mind the type of car you are driving..!! The XKR & XKRS are pretty good machines and all are usually pretty reliable if looked after..!! This new "F" Type is a good looker, sounds great and performs well, if you don't like those points then you are hard to please mate..!! No cars are perfect but I am of a mind to give anything a chance..!!
Cheers
R

Went out in a V6S - epic noise. It was very wet yet the car had immense grip. Has masses of road presence. Think they've done a great job with it.

The reviews of the F-type V8RS (I think that's its name) coupe prototype are very good. More manageable than the "usual" V8, apparently.

I was told that the 'standard' V8 is the S with 490bhp, next is the V8R Coupe with 550bhp and apparently there may be a V8RS in the pipeline with 600+bhp. I think the V8R will be a great car although I suspect the V8S can be brought up to R power levels with a smaller supercharger pulley and a chip. I'm sure someone will try it!

Personally I cannot see why you would need the V8 in such a small car. Surely the more powerful V6 is fast enough and better balanced?

The "F" type Spyder is 4470mm long, not far off the Maserati Spyder which is 4303mm, which has a V8, The "F" type V8"S" has 495 BHP, the V6 "S" has 380 BHP, weights are V6 1614kg, the V8 1665kg, slightly less than the Maserati..!!

..................which all supports getting a V6S given it nearly has the power of a 4200. No point in having another 50kg over the front wheels if you do not need to.

In my experience, too much is never quite enough! FWIW, I was surprised that the V8 (driven hard) wasn't that much faster than mine; in a side by side roll on from 30-155 he pulled 3 car lengths on me. He even told me that he was surprised and a bit disappointed than he couldn't cream me. IMO, the V8S could do with a bit more grunt to turn it into a really capable sports car.
