Unfortunately there are many buyers out there who don't do their research, and because they are buying from a trader feel 'safe'.
Unfortunately there are bad traders, as well of course good ones, as I found out when I 'nearly' bought a Porsche 928 GTS from a bad one.

I think that car is £2.5k too much based on what we all now know about it. Part of me thinks that whoever bought it is keeping it knows what they have bought and can absorb the costs to put right. Though it may very well end up for sale as it is with the buyer making a loss. :(

As Andy said if it looks too good to be true...it probably is. ;)

Matt

Your question on how to tell the tyre manufacture date. On the Michelin Pilot Sports the month and year of manufacture are in one of the boxes with lettering around 5 mm high, on my tyres I have" Michelin RADIAL X DOT 61 Y8 008X and then in the box 3510 which is week 35 of 2010. The tyres that I replaced had 3006 and the rears on the spyder were year **02 on the front and ** 06 on the rear I can't remember the exact week although I did write it in the catalogue at the time. It is worth knowing the tyre year because after 6 years tyres are past thier best and the compound offers less grip and the manufacturers recommend replacing them. The difference changing mine made was really noticable and this could be a reason for asking for a price reduction on low mileage older cars.

If it's the same car, it's got another 5000 miles on it. I still wouldn't touch it especially if it hasn't got a service history. Perhaps they managed to get one through the dealer network.

Yep, spotted all that, good find re the tyres, can you tell how you can tell the age of a tyre, suppose its stamped on there somewhere.

Other items I spotted

Interior:
Drivers seat bolster stripped of coating
Clock rusted and flaking
Air vents flaking
Ash tray cover broken
Damage to drivers door card.
Damage to cubby box lid
Passenger window clunking, about to collapse
Roof manual release nut rounded off
Drivers seat electric lumber adjust skipping
Heated seats not working
Key casing broken

Exterior:
Poor repair damage to front bumper, you can see sanding marks
Scuff n NSF bumper
Nose grill bent
OSF wing arch scuffed
2 big chips about the size of a penny on the bonnet
Heavy door dings down one flank
Both door edges chipped badly
Rear bumper had poor repair with visible sanding marks
All 4 wheels require refurb
All nuts heavily rusted
Hole in each side of the roof about the size of a 50p
Cracked rear light
Chips and scratches all over

Mechanical
Roof fails to move more than a couple of inches at a time
Roof warning light on
Airbag light on
All 4 tyres on the limit
Front disks heavily lipped and warped
Rear gbox foil under tray ripped and in poor condition

To be honest, I reckon Autofficina would have fixed all fo the above and will offer the car with a warranty, so what's so bad about it?

The bodywork looks perfect, it is clearly well repaired with a mirrored finish.
All the wheels are refurbed.
The wheel nuts look tip top (even if not, it would not matter)
The rear lights have been replaced/repaired

It wouldn't take much to figure if the roof was fixed and repaired.
It's hard to see the brakes in the photos, but again could easily be seen.
No warning lights.

I imagine it would'be just been fully serviced as well.

It now looks a sparkling car, newly refurbed, in a great colour combo. If the price were a bit better it would be a good buy. Autofficina obviously have the advantage of being able to fix everything on site, and also have a number of spares sitting around they can utilise.

If someone was concerned they could get it checked at another Indie and find out.

Looks like it , mileage wa 24,320 at auction and the photo in the advert looks like it was taken at the Brookland Auction. It seems to have had a new clutch since the auction so things are improving but proceed wih care.
