Think it's because it looks different to standard...Those wheels would attract buyers I would think...

Yeah, thinking the same too, but is was still £7k above my budget and I am a stickler for sticking to these plus I am still planning to buy at xmas, so time will tell.

Probably a good idea. However, I can't help thinking that if you pay £50k at christmas and put the Stradale bits and audio upgrade on it you would be paying about £56-7 and you could have one 6 months earlier for the same price and no hassle.

Stradale suspension kit is only £2.5k and I can probably get the bits cheaper from an alternate source anyway. Not interested in the wheels.

I like to tinker/upgrade so the suspension kit is a nice one from me to get my teeth into especially as I dont need to touch the exhaust. The gearbox is straight out the 599 so no DBW module required. The only other things I will do is chip and maybe a wrap but unsure about the wrap.

Why the wrap, well I want to have it look like this but with a red interior:

MC_sport_line-11a.jpg

To do this I will need a black GTS with a red full leather interior....easy to find, then wrap is in white but leave the black bits exposed on the sills, front splitter and boot lip. I can always have them overlayed with carbon fibre patterned vinyl but that a bit cheap IMHO.

Palmballs was the right car, but wrong time.

Furthermore, if this double dip recession is going to happen and I personally think it will, come xmas it will be a buyers market.

I like your thinking Matt, I now understand why you want to wrap the car....

Matt, I understand your modding rationale but I will NEVER understand why anyone would wrap a car like this. At best the detailling around the door shuts, under bonnet etc will make it look cheap and nasty, at worst... well, just look at Peters Lambo. I know that was a cr4p job done by knuckle dragging mouth breathers but IMO it would never look right.

Matt if you get one and fit the stradale suspension then you will need the wheels, when i saw Andrew's (Palmball) GT-S on the standard wheels, they were lost in the arches.

Matt - I would eat my shoe if you could get the parts cheaper than I did ;) (it was £2.5k as I had it fitted at Graypaul and even then, they undercut Shiltech's quote to get the business)

The parts were at little over cost price - I paid a touch over £1k plus vat for 4 springs, 4 dampers, 2 anti-roll bars and all the bushes. Don't forget that my upgrade also didn't use the 'official' MC upgrade parts for the GT-S....that official kit had different dampers to the Stradale but I shunned that and got the proper Stradale dampers (which cost a touch more). Not sure what the other ones would have been like but the Stradale ones gave a really nice ride/handling balance.

Anyway....car already sold! I wonder what was paid for it and was it anyone on here? For it to have sold that quickly when others aren't really moving must indicate the buyer knew it was different wouldn't you say?

Oh, a little update on my new car! All BMW's have utter sh!t paint jobs as they put too much lacquer on at the factory that creates a very heavy orange peel effect. It was so noticeable on my car and took away the nice metallic shimmer so this week I sent it to my Swissvax detailer (the guy who got all the swirls out of the Maserati for me). He has spend all week.....SANDING IT!

Thats right, I'm officially tapped.....I've have had my brand new car sanded.

You can see the orange peel effect quite clearly in this picture where the reflection shows it up (and it was like this everywhere)....

This is what it was like on Wednesday (honestly, I shat myself when I saw this as I've never had a car wet sanded before).....

M3FlatHeadOn.jpg

M3FlatFront.jpg

And this was what it was like on Thursday when he had polished up just half the bonnet....

M3BonnetPolished.jpg

And today I picked it up and it looked absolutely stunning....I mean the shine is the best I have ever seen! Apparently, the process is less abrasive than heavy compounding (the usual method of sorting swirls and scratches) and has removed around 10% of the lacquer so hardly any really.

Once I've got some photo's over the weekend, I'll post them up.

I did the same with my 330. It's a bit daunting at first but makes a **** of a difference to the finish. I've just got some ultrafine compound on order so I will be able to get that final, non-holographic shine. I will look forward to seeing yours on saturday morning Andrew.

And magnificent is the only way I can describe the result :)

I finally picked it up today after my detailer had it for a week and it still has all the paint on it! But it now has a great optional extra.....some real shine and reflection!

My detailer quoted 3 days to do the work but it took him nearly 5 full days and he still did it for the same price (which was, for the hard work and time taken, a bargain...and thats all I'm saying :D). Apparently the BMW top coat is very hard and takes ages to cut back and surprisingly, the paint was quite thin in a number of areas so he had to be extra careful.

Take note of the picture in my previous post that shows the orange peel (repeated below) - I've now just taken some pictures outside my house and in the decreasing levels of light at this time of day, I've done the best I can to capture some decent shots, focussing really on the reflections which previously showed the terrible orange peel effect.

If the weather is good tomorrow then I'll get some better pictures and once I get the pictures of the car going through the process, Ill post some of those up. But for now, let me know what do you think of this (and try to forget that it's merely a humble rep-mobile ;)).

Remember this picture - HOW IT WAS BEFORE

He missed a bit! But I have to say it looks a lot, lot better than it did. Well worth whatever it cost you.

That paint colour is gorgeous, the shot of the bonnet indoors with the artificial light really captures the depth of the paint. I think i like that M3.
