No, I don't think it will be a diesel and will be horrified if it is. And They always offered two engine options in the GT, albeit both V8, so I think there will be a choice again

I won't buy the diesel myself but don't care if they offer it if it allows them justify the investment and let it happen. Are you all seriously telling me that you would not buy a beautiful V6/8 petrol Maserati coupe just because someone else can buy it with a Diesel engine. It would not put me off buying a Ghibli S if I wanted one.

...... and rushing though the Alfieri.

God I hope not...last time they rushed out a range of cars it almost killed the brand. I would rather they were astute with the development and brought it out when its sorted.... but then three years shoukd have been enough time already but their eyes were on China.

I don't think they will rush. I would expect them not to green light it until they see the full sales figures for this year. If they are ok a green light for 2018, with an appearance at Geneva in 2019 and release late in the year.

One problem they've had is literally shift sands, both on the rudder at the top and in terms of the platform to build on. Is it a modified GT platform, a new platform, the Ghibli/QP platform, or now the Giulia/Stelvio platform? What would be good would be a 4WD option in the RHD markets.

It probably wouldn't stop me buying a petrol one, but I certainly wouldn't buy a diesel one. Goes against the grain of what a car like this should be all about. But maybe that's just me.

+1 for not rushing it. How much better would things have been if the GS was the first iteration of the 4200 and the GT had 4.7 litres from the start (and been followed by the Strad within a year)... instead they launched models with flaws, those were the ones that got the attention and then by the time the improved models were launched sales had been lost. The Ghibli needed a 500bhp version to steal attention from the M5/RS6/E63 and the GT replacement needs circa 600bhp to take the fight to the DB11. Otherwise the reviews will say "looks nice, good interior but underpowered compared to the competition"...

The halo 500bhp Giulia will sell plenty of 2.0 petrol and diesel models.

Well not sure about that Eb.

Nothing on the official website, it appears you can still configure and purchase a GT, just no images or info about the upgraded nav or any of the other bits.

According to Marshall Peterborough today, production of the GT did cease last year and the end of line limited editions cannot be ordered until later this year. There was a black one at one of the shows, Geneva maybe, which someone called into the dealership about wanting to order, but apparently it's for the US market only. So according to my MD, the news is as murky as usual - they are just not getting any information out of Italy

Let's face it is all irrelevant really as there is probably no one here who will order one. Much as I like my GranTurismo the thought of slapping £100k+ down on one of the run out specials does not do a lot for me. Now if they had got the V8TT with the 8 speed ZF box into it then it might have been different.

PS The fact that they won't tell the dealers zip about whether they build Maseratis' anymore at Modena and don't have any of the hugely overpriced and underperforming GranTurismo front dampers available anywhere in Europe does little to enthuse me to the brand.

Maranello was waxing lyrical about the new GTS when I spoke to them yesterday. The sales pitch is that it has the ICE system from the Ghibli and is a bit lighter. Oh, and has a slightly different front and back. I'm guessing just light clusters. For a thin slice of the cost of upgrading the entire car I'm pretty sure it would be possible to put in a more modern ICE system and I have no particular aversion to the lights I already have.

In summary, Bob, I completely agree with you.

I want it to be bloody good because right now there's nothing Maserati is still making which makes my socks go up and down in the way some Lambos, Fezzas and Maccas do. We need a halo car, and fast.

Agreed, have cash on the hip waiting to spend.

An small 4 seat coupe of GS size or a Maserati "6C" both with the V6 TT out the Alfa for £80k and I am in new.

That's the thing. A V8 front-engined Fezza plus a few k to pimp the exhaust and you're all in for less than a fairly new GT. Oh, and with a two-year warranty and likely the balance of the free seven year service plan.
