My body shop guy says the rear bumper comes off in a few minutes, so I guess it's not that hard. I would have thought if the rear undertray shield is removed, that you could get your arm in to the back of the sensor..??

I was thinking that myself, Robert. What worries me is bolt three on here:
http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=3&Mo=380&A=2&B=20175&S=
Which sort of looks like it can't be got to without removing (potentially quite a lot) of something elses. I shall have a look as the weather improves (bwahaha)
This month I am mainly tracing leaks I feel. Will be buying some new sound deadening for the boot and driver's footwell, sealant and glue. If the weather holds, it'll be remote boot release as well.

I see what you mean, but it looks like that bolt only goes through a mounting lip inside the bumper assembly. If the lower shield is taken off, you should be able to see that..??

Looking further at the diagrams, I *think* I might be able to get to it by removing the gravel guard from the NS rear arch. If the weather's not *too* cold, and I don't go wine tasting, I may have a crack at the weekend.

I can confirm the "Bosch S5008 / 096 Silver Plus" fits and functions. It has 2 vents for the excess gases so some additional tubing and connectors required (and a little PTFE tape), costing an extra £6 from the local B&Q. Although I've been told about a local scrap merchant that will buy the old battery for around £7.

My battery has been on its way out for a while now, and ive kept forgetting to order a new one, final straw was a couple of days ago i had to be in London early morning what meant leaving my house at about 2am i jumped the car the day before, didnt bother alarming it and turned everything off, 1am i jump in the car to warm her up and nothing so hard to move the wifes car and hope her battery was powerful enough to jump mine, luckily it was, but when i got to london i jumped on the net and ordered a new battery from Tanya.co.uk i knew what was supposed to be in my car but ive never felt it was enough. so ive upgraded to a 900CCA and 100AH, its listed as being too long for my battery tray ( and hence to long for the masser's) but i took mine out and had the intention of modifying my tray when the bugger just dropped straight in no problems

As the 159 and most of the maseratis use the same tray size and Same sized batterys i thought it might be good for you lot to know, the battery i went for is a 017TE Exide X-tra Plus. the terminal position is correct for our cars, the Hight and Width is also correct the (Length is listed as too long but it does fit) and you get the extra boost of a 100AH and 900CCA all for the good price of £88 including delivery.

I'll have a read through thiis thread today but does anyone know if there's an alternative part to the GranSport wheel sensors? One of mine has packed up and its an eyewatering price for a replacement!

Cheers

Out of interest, how do you go about finding out about alternatives? I think I have the part number but am not sure how I then go about checking to see if it has an identical number on an Alfa or something. Any suggestions would be welcome.

ok a couple pics for you on the visual size of the Exide battery
20130202_111627.jpg
20130202_111837.jpg
20130202_111812.jpg

as you can see the new battery is 330mm long
the old one is 320mm long
your batterys are the same as the one used in the alfa so just check the size of your tray not the size of the battery,
H and W are the same you might need to shoe horn the battery a little but not much as theres only 10mm difference beteern the two

no problem :) if it helps you guys out then it was worth the time :)
we all know fiat supply under powered battery's on there cars, even if you need to do a little modding to the battery tray to make it fit having a battery that is better suited to the job with help keep the car in better condition.!

For ease of reference, I have prepared a spreadsheet listing all the parts I could find in this thread (not looked at the foreign sites, yet)

I've not included credits for the discoverer of the alternative, but can if people think it's useful.

I have tried to cut through the differing opinions, or added notes to clarify. The only two that spring to mind are the MAF sensors (which I have included, as *I* am happy as to the suitability) and the knock sensors, as there seems to be substantial disagreement as to whether replacements are fit for purpose.

Problem I have is that I can't attach it (no surprise now I think about it)

Happy to send it to anyone, but do we have a drop box or similar for the forum?
