@Wattie - does the pacemaker have a boost mode? Maybe a 15-30 seconds surge for times of passion…? or for when reading the daily gold prices?

15-30 seconds......Christ, I don’t want the Mrs to realise what she’s been missing out on all these years Jon!!!

On a serious note, I can feel the difference in my circulation. When I lie down in a quiet room i’m Aware of the pulse beat in my neck/head....very odd...I can sense it along with a slight rocking motion. Bit like, tick over.
It’s slightly annoying so i’m hoping i’ll stop noticing it soon- as it becomes more normal.

Being told I needed a pacemaker was a helluva shock. It wasn’t something that had really been discussed prior to surgery. Apparently my valve was a “disaster” and the surgeon could not understand how I had no symptoms. Pacemakers have come along way. Mine comes with an electronic device that uploads my heart data on a nightly basis to my surgical team. They can then adjust the parameters according to how i’m Using it.....ie when I return to the gym and start pushing its upper limits.
40 mins to insert- saved my life.

Amazing what they can do these days: you’re like an F1 car which is being adjusted from the pits!

By way of weekly update, I’m now day 75 off the booze - I’m confident that I’ll make my 90 day target to complete the challenge. I’ve lost just a little more weight this week (79.7kg today), and I’ve really noticed the positive changes which abstinence is bringing: I’m calmer and more confident, have loads of energy, and my concentration is so much better.

So glad to hear that you’re on the mend, Wattie, and that you’re already looking forward to getting back to normal activities - so pleased you’re fixed!

Day 75 !!! That’s pretty damned phenomenal Froddy and just shows what can be done when a determined individual puts their mind to it! Take a bow sir :alan:
What’s your plans for post 90? Are u going to follow a weekly allowance type basis so u keep on the right side of consumption that you feel happier with?
I’ve no doubt my recent experience will lead to a far more conservative approach from me in the booze dept too- short Dan Murphy’s ;)

I know that I can’t let myself fall back into the old habit of daily drinking - there really are no upsides to it, other than it’s (temporarily) fun/relaxing and I love it! The question is whether I‘ll be able to stop that old habit from slowly creeping in once the challenge is over: it can be so easy to give yourself “permission” by finding justification to pour that glass.

I think I’ll get December out the way and enjoy drinks with friends and family (once lockdown is over), and then January will give me a really good reason to go dry again.

I’m planning to do this challenge at least once each year, with shorter challenges intermittently. Your health is your wealth, as they say, and the benefits I’ve seen are almost as addictive as the booze!

A day later than normal, but happy with the result

31st October - 85.2kg @ 25.2% body fat
7th November - 85.0kg @ 25.0% body fat
15th November - 84.4kg @ 24.9% body fat

@Froddy - I agree with you completely re drinking... I think not drinking every day makes me sleep better, makes me feel healthier, helps me to lose weight, makes me happier, improves my sex life (because it means I go to bed at the same time as my wife - not a droop issue!), makes me better at my job, and probably sets a better example to my kids.

Problem is I really enjoy drinking, and I’m rubbish at drinking in moderation....

Wow - that's a great weekly result - congrats! Must be the extra nocturnal exercise(!)

Really pleased to hear your positives, and it sounds like we share the enjoyment vs. moderation imbalance.

It's a real conundrum - I know in my heart that I should carry on beyond day 90 as it makes perfect sense for all the reasons we're both experiencing. Why on earth would I give up those up?

Answers on a postcard!

For me, the benefits of having a glass of wine (or two, etc) outweigh the benefits of not. So going dry just one or two days a week is all the punishment I’m prepared to self inflict. Indeed, I’ve set aside some delicious claret to have with the roast pork at lunch. Hope you chaps enjoy your Evian!

Other news. Managed to borrow a bench and some weights from my small local gym while it’s closed, so can keep going on the chest, shoulder and arm workouts. My weight is still steady at around the 103kg mark, but the dumbbells are feeling lighter.

Unhelpful Ewan. I was already wavering today (roast beef for lunch) and this may be the final straw...

However, right now, I’m about to have a Free Dam alcohol free beer...

UPDATE: by some miracle, and thanks to “Belvoir Fruit Farms - Juniper & Tonic Botanicals” I got through lunch without any alcohol! Now I feel all virtuous!

Good result JonW......all graphs heading down.
Booze is a tough one especially when you like it- a happy medium exists- somewhere.
Keep up the good work.

Day 82 off the booze, and I feel like I'm now on the home straight towards my 90 day goal.

No significant weight loss this week (down 0.2kg to 79.5kg), but I thought I'd go into some deeper readings (wish I'd done this at the start for comparison purposes!)

24.3% body fat (boo!) - this needs to be 22% or lower
52.1% water (yay!)
Metabolic age - 49 - (boo! - I'm 47)
Visceral fat level 2 (yay!)

Looks like there's more work to be done ...
