I'm surprised that 50% of the Irish population can still afford to eat at MaccyDs.

The biggest step forward, was when manufacturers stared making low friction engines. Oil suddenly improved in leaps and bounds, and cars started passing 100k, with no noticable wear.
200k, is quite normal, on many cars, these days. I had a Merc, with 364k on it, and was ripe for clocking [as many do end up], as it drove mint. You would of thought it had done, around 75k.
Nearly every week, I would see BMW 5 and 7 series, heading over 200k, with absolute no engine wear. Its owner care, at end of day. To call a car with 80k, high mileage, these days, is daft, as its just getting nicely run in!
In Spain, mileage is unimportant. Lots and lots of different makes, have 300k+ on them, and as long as they go, and pass the test each year, miles will just go, up and up.
In New York, is an old Checker Yellow Cab, run by a woman for 40+ yrs, and its done over 5 million miles! Good old lazy V8!!
I have had more problems, with low mileage cars [average 2k a year], then any high miler. Give me a good maintained high miler any day!

All my diesels are ex lease cars with high mileage. They are very cheap and have always been really well looked after. My naggers 320D touring on a 54 has done 192k and I averaged 55.5 round trip to Gatwick. It smokes a bit under hard acceleration but it doesnt have a DPF.

Stick a couple of bottles of injector cleaner, in the 320D tank. That will help with the black smoke.

My diagnostic machine, allows for the DPF, to renovate its self. But like you say, they clog up, due to short journeys, stop/start commuting. This sort of driving, needs regular injector cleaner, and a good blast down the motorway. This usually cleans them.
I hate them, and Cats. Both needless things, that actually increases fuel consumption. Cats are ok for 6 months, then are just a restrictive silencer. DPF, another filter, that restricts airflow, and so when semi blocked, increases fuel consumption.
Some cars, you can remove them, with no issues. But some, are integral, with the ECU, and a real pain. Why have this silly filter, when really, its the fuel, that needs cleaning!

From conception the Ferrari /Maserati 4200/430 lump has been proven to be mega reliable , reaching easily in excess of 140K providing its been properly maintained , and time will probably see it reaching the 200K mark if anyone could withstand the fuel bills without going bancrupt ,

Loz, I find myself once again disagreeing with your experiances. How can you make the assumption that 'an engine' 'should' make such a milage without proof. Its for comments like these that I have had to discipline you in the past.

I've seen several 3200 GT with 200K km's and a few with 250K km's on Mobile during the recent years.

I can also confirm that over here in Sweden people are very obsessed with mileage as well. My 3200 GT has just recently (last week) passed 85K km's and it would be labeled a high-mileage car on the Swedish market due to marque and model.

Thats the way most high end cars are regarded.......but Maseratis do rack up the miles easily.....in the wrong hands.....;)
