What car after QPV?

If you want a comfy saloon and want to try something different to a QP I reckon a Lexus GS F is a nice choice. Very rare, still a NA V8, one of the last in fact. Relatively to any other big saloon will also cost button to run and will never let you down.
Styling is subjective, I quite like them, but let’s be honest, anything is going to be a step back styling wise from a QP.

just get another QPV. nothing yet made to compete.
Perhaps the market segment no longer exists? Luxury loving lunatics, who love tactile thrills in spectacularly styled luxury. Can also take family on holiday / four 20 inch wheels to the tyre shop. / bike on the back seat to cycle home from servicing drop off. Add sunroof for jobbing joiners.

No finer 4 door car. And no diesels or Chrysler parts. Alfa parts yeah, but that's acceptable.....

I guess this is why it is not such an easy question to answer.
My 1977 Merak SS broke down on a tour in Italy and Maserati very kindly leant me a brand new QP with four wheel drive. It was fast but I did not really bond with the newer car.
There are very few cars (of mine) that my family have liked. The 612 was one (although I didn’t like the f1 box) and the QPV is the other.
FF and Rapide S are great suggestions.

I keep worrying about what I will replace the QP with when the time comes. I have a fun weekend car and a DB9 but I do need a big comfy GT car with character occasionally, either when I have family to transport or when I feel the need for a super comfortable car for a long journey.

I’m probably at least a year away from changing the QP. But I do love the whole car buying/obsessing process.

I need 4 proper seats and some soul. So, where next? Has anyone done this change?
So technically that would leave you without a Maserati......? Not necessarily a comfortable place to be......?

If you want a serious contender for 4 seat, try an E Class 63 with either 5.5 or newer 4 litre V8 E63

I've got an CLS 63 Shooting Brake with a 'mild' tune. Staggeringly quick either going to the recycling centre or the other end of the country.

I fear that there is no real upgrade path from a QP. It's in a class of it's own. You could try a Rapide or a Panamera and that's about it but they're not quite the same.

Fingers crossed Maserati get it right with the QP7. Something between the Ghibber and the QP6 size wise, and more Italian and less Germanic.

I have a FF Range Rover for that task. Really comfortable and took 4 adults in 2000 mile round trip to France this summer with ease.

Jaguar XJ?

Dean/Rockits had one last year and for bargain money. I was impressed.

Dean has ‘the knack’ of finding shrewd bargains.

Or as Ewan states, you can’t go wrong with a RR

Personally I would go 4.7QP, GTS if you can stretch that far. They are wonderful cars and you will still have a Maserati which is the best but.

Now that's a decent idea as it's not rocketship money like lots of the ideas....If we are talking about this type of car then an M5 is well worth a look. Yes you will get those who say it hasn't got Italian passion...(what ever that means) ....but it's a weapon. 20k gets a 20012/2013 car .....560bhp, 30 plus MPG an0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds.

but does it feel like an orthopaedic shoe? (or anything else bought from a Sunday supplement)

For me it also boils down to how many other examples of the marque you will see on the roads. Merc, BMW, Audi may have some great saloons at the top of their ranges, but they are diluted by more or less the same shape in a range of different models and by a plethora of other types so it's not very exciting to see another one or own one (for me) at least. Therefore It would have to be something more rarified, with star quality and with some performance. So it would be a Maserati, Aston, Bently, Lambo etc and possibly Porche at a pinch.

An therein lies the rub. Not alot to choose from. I fear for a saloon, it's probably an evolutionary dead end to be surplanted by the SUV

Maserati arguably went down that path with the influx of Ghiblis and Levantes. I understand the Levante is needed for today’s market but the Ghibli imo was a huge mistake and should’ve been a new Alfa instead.

I’m sure the figures I saw showed that Maserati sold more Ghibli 3s than Alfa sold cars in total in the same period.

To the OP the only two saloons I think hold up to a Maser are Bentley and Alpina.
