Wet Driver Carpet Footwell

Hi Ross

Luckily I don't have this problem but I do have a intermittent fan issue where it just seems to stop all other function work as there should do , so iam thinking it could be a bad connection to the fan motor . When you have been trying to fix your problem with the dash off etc is there access to the motor and it's connectors ? I think it may be getting moister in the connector as this only happens when it's been raining heavy out side didn't have any problem during the summer when using the aircon .

Hi Maverick.

The main fan connector is under the glovebox. So it shouldn't be getting wet unless your fan box is full and it§s dripping down the cable.

Given the current it takes, though, I would not be at all surprised if it's feeling the heat. You should be able to access it by lying, face up, in the passenger footwell and looking up.

Hope that's of some help.

It could be that the drain hose has come disconnected at the top or bottom, however
I was under the impression that Ross knew what he was about checking that the bottom of the hose is secure into its slot in the transmission tunnel.

It's not entirely clear to me, but I *think* that water in the fan box / pollen filter drains out, via the heater matrix / condenser enclosure and thence out via the hose. This is at least what Contigo (I think) was intimating.

If the top has come lose, then all the water that gets into the fan box will come down somewhere near the foot wells.

If the hose *only* carries condensate, I can't see that it's the problem.

Of course, if it's out at the bottom I think you're going to get wet feet as well....

Hi Chris

I will double check this. The bottom of the hose is definitely connected. The top I have no idea about and will have to have a feel around.

Mav - I think C has anwered your question. If you did want to see the dash with top removed... look at this thread for photos: http://www.sportsmaserati.com/showthread.php/397-Dashboard-top-Instruments-removal

Hi catman checked the cable going into the connector and gave the outside sheave a squeeze and bingo dropes of water came out near the connector. , but when pulling the connector apart it looks dry inside so I followed the cable back to where it goes into the fan box and there is a rubber grommet type of thing prized this out and found if very wet and full of wet gunk ( mud and small particles of leaves . So iam now thinking that the drain pipe is blocked and not allowing the water to be expelled this also might explain the very bad condensation iam getting at the moment , plus I also remember when I had the service Dave commented on how soaked the pollen fitter was and it looked like if had never been changed for a very long time . So is there a method of removing the fan housing so I can clean and dry this out . Or would just cleaning out the drain hose be good enough ?

If you clean out the drain and make sure it is free flowing, the fan box will dry out and any bits left will blow away..!!

Do the clean. You may (almost certainly will) need a new pollen filter as well. I have a spare here if you want to come and get it, or Eurospares can supply a pattern part cheap enough.

Thanks for the offer catman but it would probably cost me more in fuel to collect it than the cost of a new one . Ross sorry for the hijack of thread but hopefully all the information gathered from a our learned friends may help others , I do hope you find your leak and get it sorted soon .

Hi
If you find that the pipe underneath the condenser is not fitted correctly it can be refitted without removing the dash. Remove carpets etc and coverings to the side of the gearbox tunnel.
Even though it seems impossible I put a large screwdriver through the s shape rubber pipe thus making it straight then put the pipe underneath the small half inch tube coming down from the condenser there is only a half inch gap between tube and gearbox tunnel and impossible to reach by hand, by placing the tube the right way up and slowly withdrawing the screw driver the 90degree bend reforms and with a bit luck pushes onto the condenser tube,it took me about 10 goes, because of the tight fit between gear box tunnel and condenser tube this helps the pipe to push its self on. I did this myself 18months ago and its be fine since

Well apparently it is all fixed.

Thanks to Roger for the recommendation
Try David @ auto revive in Harefield though he's shutting tomorrow for the Xmas break

I emailed a few garages nearby and Auto Revive were competitive in their prices and confident with their knowledge. A rubber grommet was replaced along with the housing for the pollen filter, both of which looked past their best. It is not known which was the cause. I've also replaced the scuttle around the windscreen wipers as that was showing it's age. The boot/fuel flap button has also been replaced. All with new Maserati parts.

The wallet is a bit lighter and I may have to wait to get the wheels done now, but at least she's sorted.

Hi Ross

Glad you've got the issues sorted.

It cost me just £320 to have the four wheels refurbed. Money very well spent, as you saw at Goodwood in October.
