if it get wet when not used this is not your probs ,be careful when checking it easily pulls off from condenser and is a big headache to refit

I remember when mine backed up on my first 4200...it was at Le Mans when I left the party to visit the in-laws in Le Lion Angers...went round a corner and I could hear the fan splashing in the water like a paddle steamer!!!

Ok guys. I've managed to find some time to devote to this around all the house stuff.

I have removed the dash top.

With the car stationary, switched off, water running on the front windscreen, the footwell gets wet.

Water runs down somewhere behind the centre console, on the driver side, to the drivers foot rest.

I do not think it is the windscreen leaking as I cannot see any water coming in around the seals.

So could it be a disconnected pipe or something? Part 4 in that diagram?

If that is the AC drain hose,I don't think it is that. As when I put the air on ECON I can feel air blowing out of the AC drain hose.

Thanks

Any thoughts?

I've spoken to Marios who thinks it is the drains. I'll have another look, but they looked fine last time.

Ross,
Have you taken off the front grille section directly under the screen to see if you can see any split seals, or dissapearing water..??

I've not taken that off, but I don't think it will add much. I have the whole of the dash top off, so i can see inside the car that there is not water coming in on the edges of the screen.

Ross,
If it's not on the edge of the screen, then it has to be further forward and under that skuttle grille is a likely area, as it is dropping in on the footrest which is forward of the screen base. I know water just runs along anything it finds, that's why these little leaks are a sod to locate..!!

Mick - how did you refit it?

I'm going to try and check if mine is ok. Or if it is slightly disconnected.

Thanks

If that's the AC Condenser drain, that would only happen when the AC is on and car has been running, this does not sound like your problem..??

Hi Robert,

I will try and remove the whole scuttle and have a look.

The reason for thinking about the drain hose is what Catman said earlier
It's the drain from the fan box. It'll piddle water everywhere in the rain. Stops the pollen filter from getting soggy.

And given my findings on where water is coming in.

Ross,
As far as I remember from previous threads on this subject, the drain from the fan box area normally leaks in to the passenger footwell (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). As this leak is on the other side, it could be related, but it might be coming from a seal somewhere under the grille. Could be even where the wiper motor bolts to the body, or something like that..?? There was a thread on here about wiper motors and it had photo's of under the grille, might help..??
Cheers

It could be that the drain hose has come disconnected at the top or bottom, however
I was under the impression that Ross knew what he was about checking that the bottom of the hose is secure into its slot in the transmission tunnel.

It's not entirely clear to me, but I *think* that water in the fan box / pollen filter drains out, via the heater matrix / condenser enclosure and thence out via the hose. This is at least what Contigo (I think) was intimating.

If the top has come lose, then all the water that gets into the fan box will come down somewhere near the foot wells.

If the hose *only* carries condensate, I can't see that it's the problem.

Of course, if it's out at the bottom I think you're going to get wet feet as well....

I hope you find it soon Ross, this is all very intriguing and I think we all need to know the answer, you more so..??

I'm hoping to have a bit of free time some point soon for one last try before it goes to a specialist.

Sorry to come to this thread late, but I have had similar maddening issues over the last couple of weeks. Drivers footwell puddle overnight after heavy rain. I have had the dash top off, the scuttle cover off (clear of leaves), checked the pollen filter (dry) and fan box (dry and leaf free), checked the air con drain pipe (clear). On advice, removed the nearside inner wing protectors and washer bottle to check inner wing etc etc. When it was happening, I could hold a hose just ahead and below the screen and to the outside of the bonnet hinge plate and see water running into the footwell from a box section just in from of the door pillar. I just could not see where it was coming in.

Then.. it decided to stop leaking last week. Even with torrential rain on Friday and Saturday it was bone dry. Parked in the same place as when it had been leaking like a sieve. I just don't get it. Loopy theory I am clinging to is that having driven through so much standing water, there might be some section of inner wing that might have "filled up", so exposing a route ini for water - and once we the floods and rain had stopped for a few days, the water dissipated. I don't know, but I would love to get to the bottom of it too.

Dom, it is quite scary that you've done all that and not found the problem.

If i pay a garage to do all that it would cost me a fortune.
