Wet Driver Carpet Footwell

Hi All,

So she's wet herself. The drivers footwell carpet is wet. I am near 100% sure that it is water. Also the water does not smell funny or anything like that.

I'm not sure why this has started happening, and I'm pretty sure it's when it is sat outside in the rain and not when driving.

The Air Con drain hole seems fine.
The pollen filter was changed in August (I saw the old one).

I wonder if it might be a collection of leaves under the scuttle(?) panel? By that I mean the plastic panel that covers the top part of the engine bay by the windscreen wipers.

I might investigate that - are there any other areas I should look?

Thanks

If the above fails, my next idea would be to send the car to someone to have a look. I am in South Herts/North London, and (I hope) this is not a big job. So local would be good. If anyone has experienced similar and got it sorted at an Indie, a recommendation of that person would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
R

If the cars been sat, it sounds like a blockage under the pollen filter. Needs blowing through with an airline.

If I take the air con drain hose out, stick the fans on "Econ" and put the fans on....I get a nice steady stream of air. So I doubt it is a blocked pollen filter.

Also, the pollen filter was definitely changed in August.

I had this problem which was solved by removing the side panel to the centre consul and cutting a little off the rubber tube which acts as a drain from the underscuttle area. This tube gets bunged-up and allows the water to build up and overflow. Details of how to do the job are here somewhere.

Hmm. Mine seems to be misting up a lot. It clears but takes its time.
No dampness I can feel in either footwell or any carpet.
Any other thoughts, or it just the way they are?

I would look at the skuttle to see if it is blocked with leaves. Get a torch and see if you can see any water marks around the bottom of the inside screen rubber. Take the drivers mat out and check rubber bungs are OK. You could hose the car down with someone inside checking for where the drips are coming from..!!

UPDATE
--------------------

The car has not been driven for over a week. It was sat in the driveway in the downpour last night. The drivers carpet footwell is now very wet.

I don't think it can be the A/C drain - as why would that come into play when the car is switched off and stationary?

I think I've got to get the plastic cover off and have a look...but it is so **** cold!

Ross,
You need to check: Screen Rubber, Air input area under top grill in front of windscreen, is it filling up, are the drain hoses blocked..??
Cheers

Robert, if you could take a photo of what I need to dismantle and check that would be great, or use a photo of the engine bay and just circle the area.

Thanks

You should be able to see in to the air grille just in front of the screen and under the wipers, this can get filled up with leaves at the bottom, which can block the water drain holes, you need to see if those are free running. The screen rubber itself, if you can prise a small section of the inner rubber surround out from the glass, then let it go, if there is water in there you should see it..!! If you can see below the screen seal, check that too..!!

This looks like it might cost me some money.

The area under the plastic cover around the windscreen wipers is free of leaves. The drain holes appear the be working. But when water hits the front windshield of the car it comes into the cabin. I'm not sure where from.

Water is coming in behind the accelerator pedal, the sound deadening is wet there. BUT the car is parked on a slope, so the drivers side is significantly lower than the passenger side.

Does anyone have any thoughts, or am I looking at going to an Indie now?

My concern is that this could spiral in terms of costs especially if they want to take the dash.

What a b u gger.

My windscreen is insured Ross, not that I'm suggesting anything but I know where my thinking would be going...
