Or I would jack up then put blocks under the wheel rather than the wishbone.

That's what I would do; Jack up the car until the wheel is well off the ground, put a block under the wheel and drop the Jack. That way you can slide under the car (supported with an axle stand) and have a look along the back of the wishbone. If you leave the wishbone at full extension you won't be able to see the potential crack point.

I would be game for replacing my own, reckon it is do-able at home.
Will need a proper alignment though - with shims.

Well I guess it was inevitable - car up on friends ramp this afternoon and discovered that OSF arm is cracked just as other cars described in this thread. Tracking through thread it seems to be about 1 in 3 cars affected! Mine is a 3200 with 85K and original arms. Next job I guess is to complete VOSA form. I'm now wondering whether to bite the bullet and buy new arms before there is a rush on them or wait until the (hopefully) inevitable recall.IMG_0285.jpg

Sorry Steve, but better to know about it.:(
Yes, fill in the vosa form and send the photo too. Remember and fill out the extra info bit re difficulty in seeing crack during service and potential for fatal accident etc.
Re replacing. Up to you really and I suppose will depend if you need to drive her or can store her.

Bad luck steve, but good on you for checking and posting.
Better finding a crack than losing a wheel.

Had mine up on bricks to inspect. Bad light , poor eyes and awful pictures leave me none the wiser. Lottery continues.

Took a quick look at weekend but inconclusive, this weekend I will jack up and drop it down onto a couple of blocks of wood to check properly. Meantime I have checked back the service history and see that mine had two new front lower wishbones at Fiorano Cars back in September 2008 at 39k miles, cost £356 each back then. 6 years later she now has 52k on her so I will be extremely unimpressed if further new wishbones are required…we shall see !!

Hopefully all will be well Alistair, mine had them replaced also prior to me getting her. I've not had a chance to go through the paperwork yet to see when, but can't be that long as the part No. is still visible in marker pen!

Alistair, I agree with Allan here. I don't think any of the cars that have had them replaced have found cracks, so fingers crossed.

Mine is going to Emblem, to be safe; I'll report back with the findings. It looks to have had both replaced 2008ish.

Mine is an 04 GS with 40k+ miles on it so i will be interested to see what they look like. I had a quick look underneath and at a glance they look fairly new but wont know for sure until i jack it up. Will have to wait till next month.....
