In the winter, you can use Pirelli Sotozero winter tyres. I had these on my GT in the coldest months, and the P Zeros for the rest of the time.

On the Strad I just keep the Pirelli P Zero Corsa's on all year round as I don't use that particular car in the frost/snow.
Excellent, cheers Ewan, Mine will see action thorugh winter, so will take your advice. A set of after market rims too, to preserve my standrd ones too...

Pirelli's on my QP were fine in summer but nightmare in wet and cold... now I have a GT, am thinking winter tyres and rims...anyone got any suggestions for optimum winter use only?

I hate Pzeros, but for the winter I really love Pirelli Sottozeros (on my QPV S in the UK). Can't wait to put them on - would anyone in the Stroud area like to bring round a trolley jack?

If you fancy a roadtrip you're more than welcome to use my lifts.

Agreed! I had these on my first GT in winter and they were great.

I don't bother now, as I feel the PS4S are good enough in all but snow, but if you want winter tyres can't go wrong with the sotozero.

Moved the winter tyres for the BMW over the weekend, now more accessible when it really turns cold but at the moment way to warm

Well I know which tyres on my Strad tried to repeatedly kill me and which tyres stick like glue regardless of a head to head test and I won’t be changing!

Are you all really that good a driver you can really tell the difference ??

Some do do crab horribly coming out of the drive when the tyres are cold but cant really tell any difference when moving.

On both my old 3200ac and my qp 5 now, if I give it the full beans on anything other than a bone dry road the back end is twitching with pirelli on

Have you visited the upper end of the rev range yet?
Or driven on wet motor lane one? My QP is very squirmy on these roads wet or dry, but with worn Pirelli I thought the wheels were loose!

I don't think it's anything to do with being a good driver, maybe its just a 'feel' thing and you either have it or not.
It amazes me when people say things like that, I can't believe some people can't feel the difference! To me, a change of tyre and tyre pressures etc.. makes a huge difference to how the car drives and feels.
It's the same with Geo too. I couldn't believe how different the car cornered after changing the OEM toe out, to a little toe in for example. It felt like a different car. But some people say its such a little change that it'd be unnoticeable. Strange.

To be fair I should be a millionaire.
Over 40 years in the Motortrade if I had had a pound of every customer who said what have done to my car it goes so well.
If I explained to them on top of the service I gave it a mobile de coke they wouldn't come back ;)

When I got the F Type it was fitted with P Zero grips and it was awful. Even before it was tuned it would spin up at every opportunity in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I binned them even though they were less than half worn and fitted Michelins. The car was transformed especially in the cold and wet. I, for one, won’t be going back to P Zeros. Interestingly, the GMA T50 will be fitted with Michelins PS4Ss as standard.

I have gone over 3000 revs a couple of times.....

The comparison was one make to another, even at 3000 revs i can tell the difference between worn and new !!

Well worn tyres are exciting in the wet, but on a low powered fwd car the linglongs i have on it appear to be ok.

I had a similar experience with my Bentley. The Pirellis fitted inspired zero confidence, were dreadful in cold and damp or wet conditions and could be made to slip. I binned them very quickly in favout of PS4S all round and the car is a different animal altogether, very much night and day. The standard fit Pirellis on my Ghibli were also rubbish in anything other than warm and dry conditions. I have absolutely no positive experience of Pirelli tyres other than the Scorpion Verdes I fitted to my Range Rover which I found suited the car very well.
