I would follow whatever it says on the tin C, I would think they are being uber cautious. These parts are possibly a styrene but more likely to be a nylon. Styrenes will collapse almost instantly if put in contact with acetones. Styrenes are quite easily 'smelt' if you scratch the surface on the back you will get that airfix smell from your childhood if it is...

most of the companies that make the touch up paint will also sell you the undercoat, i would use that first so the colour match is as good as possible. I would not prepare the reversing sensor surface if its new it will be ok, if its old or greasy give it a rub (not too agressively) with some Hammerite thinners, which is about the only real solvent cleaner left that you can buy, which is cellulose based like the paint and will help it take, even if it melts the sensor a little it evaporates instantly and wont do much damage :).
