I spent many years having only the option of one car and, no matter how special at the time, I switched regularly to find the perfect compromise that simply doesn't exist. Back in the 80s I was driving 30k miles pa for work and switched between a 205GTi and a Saab Turbo four times in succession, missing the virtues of whichever had been sold inside 6 months of changing! I owned a 993 for many years and loved getting out for Le Mans trips and special weekends but, when I ran it for 3 months as my daily, I grew to loath it! If the mythical 'petrol head' relative left me 100k in a will with instructions to spend it accordingly I would have to resist the temptation of the gorgeous Strad (not just because I already have one!) and instead buy 4 or 5 cars to satisfy the different driving pleasures; perhaps a GTS/GS. a Caterham, a RR V8, an SL and a QPV? The great thing from my perspective is that the best drivers cars were produced (or designed) in the 90/00s so depreciation makes this a great option. Currently deciding between a 90s SL500 or a 00s SL55.....
