Thoughts on consolidating maybe 3 cars into 1?

OK I didn't want to do this but you have made me. I actually had to sit there and work this out which sounds mad but this is what can happen if you get emotionally attached to things.

I currently own 11 cars (and have another 5 for sale through a part-owned business) and I am not happy about using any of them as a daily, for probably about 11 different reasons if i really wanted to analyse it further. Which I don't.

I always have an idea in my head about what would make the perfect daily. Then I buy the perfect daily and decide it isn't (usually because it is too nice, or too low miles or too fragile or too needy or too something).

Off to the Classifieds.... :)

I deciding between a 90s SL500 or a 00s SL55.....

I've had a few SL's and an R230 SL55 and don't find myself wanting another SL55. I do fancy a CLS55 though.

I guess my thinking is that some of the 3 into 1 cars would be significantly better than the 3 it would replace. I guess naively as in reality they are going to be likely better but how much so.

The good thing about having a few that are different is they are so different. Maybe I've got it right in the first place.

Although not practical now I guess I need to get out and drive a V10 R8, AMG GT, Vantage V12 S, F-Type R/SVR, 550/360, Strad.

I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a Ferrari owner as they don't suit my muted character. The others just seem to be a little tiny but less shouty.

After swapping around combinations at a lower level than most of you chaps (never had more than 3 cars myself at one time) - and after some epic fails - for me Personally the perfect triad would be - A smart for two (parking at work, Tesco’s nips, going down to the beach for a run), a fully loaded RRS conversion (for family trips, school runs etc) and a 488/458 spider/F12/aston Martin DBs for the special moments.

I was on track to realise this triad before corona hit. Now I am stuck with the RRS and can’t begin to convince myself it’s possible to drop 150k on a luxury car right now. If I was sure that 1) the end of the world was nigh or 2) it would be worth more rhs 50p in 6 months - I would buy one.

Have they? Where as I’ll buy the lot...

I ought to expand on this...

Trade prices haven’t altered (no one is trading). WBAC & BCA have suspended trading. Cap hpi who collate figures aren’t releasing any CAP figures til June. Prices through this lockdown will remain constant, no point in reducing prices as we aren’t allowed to hand a car over, although we can arrange a sale and deliver it when the law permits.

If I told you what I sold mine for after offering it to the forum just serviced and belts done by Ferrari to compliment it's full MD service history and I was the second owner you would cringe as I do myself now.
You offered it to me for something like £28k!!! IIRC... wow.

So how do people collect cars from Ferrari and main dealers etc as per other threads on here?

They can do with social distancing on a private sale I suppose. Otherwise, they’re breaking the law. Car showrooms were ordered to close last week.

Yep, I noticed that CAP basically suspended trading for three months. Friends in the trade are commending them on LinkedIn for that. It's a bit of a Titanic moment really, the market will clearly be lower for practically everything in three months time when we all reopen for business. I don't just mean cars and I am nowhere near as negative as Wattie (we will recover) but it's likely down before up for a while and CAP will have to issue some form of guidance to help the trade eventually as 'no change' is just deferring expressing an opinion.

How about this -

It’s a win:win

  1. A special piece of British engineering (who doesn’t want to own a rolls Royce at one point in their life.
  2. It has formula 1/ motorsport connections
  3. Well under budget - (it would count as a mystery buy if it was on a tv show)
  4. You would have unlimited revenue from it and would be tax deductible from your new little business venture. :(
Vintage Rolls are lovely , I find the current models very tacky , something a footballer would buy where the old money is still buying bentley .

I love the new Bentley Continental GT

100% agree. I have interested parties at present. I’ve sent them videos of the cars and any deals agreed will be completed when legally allowed to do so. Key workers can buy cars still as far as I’m aware.

Oh, so I can still....Bet they means a little run around though not a V12 Supercar. Glad you still having interest and working through it Dicky. Difficult times.

Grey area that, I’d suggest a key worker who needs a car to get them to work. If that happens to be a V12 then so be it.

I like the new Bentley too but my days of expensive cars are gone - kids to feed so keeping my Maser which is no bad thing really!

Drove a 1948 Roller a while back and loved it, essentially similar (to my untrained eye) to the one in the ad as they just started up production with what they had after the war.

This is a wonderful way to pass the time we're not spending commuting, going out and all that other good stuff. The perfect parlour game for car fiends.

From my point of view, the reduced admin of two fewer cars would be a blessing. Just less buggering about, which is always welcomed. But what to get... definitely give the V12VS a spin. Even though I got mine for a song, I daren't even look at prices now. Like with Athol and his FF, mine feels increasingly like a keeper. Notwithstanding my previous comment, if I get another car I can see it being additional rather than instead. You've been smart and got cars that likely won't drop too much, but just be careful that you don't get anything too new. An R8 V10 Plus spider would be quite something...
