Now I have researched this properly, I'm pretty sure "HORTON HEARS A WHOM" is not correct. Apparently, in the book, the tiny creatures that Horton hears are actually called "Whos". So Horton did hear a Who. Whom did Horton hear? A Who.

And caring about these things isn't pretentious. It's pedantic; or maybe punctilious. Also fussy and nit-picking.

I am so happy to read this. I did almost post a comment to the effect that I did not seek to imply that you were pretentious, but hoped it would be un-needed.

Of course it is utterly redundant for me to observe that the point is that it is NOT referring to 'the book' but rather to another, hypothetical situation imagined for comic effect ;)

Chap was given a small screw-top container by his doctor, and told to bring back a sperm sample. He went home, and he and his wife tried their best - even asked Madge, their next-door neighbour for assistance. Madge even suggested holding it under warm water. He went back to the doctor, and placed the empty container on his desk. "There's nothing in it" remarked the doctor.
"I tried everything, my wife had a go, even Madge next door couldn't do it. None of us could get that lid off!!!"
