I swear my “ported” Fizzy with expansion pipe was good for way over 60 mph - LOL
My first moped was a Gitane Champion with a six-speed moto minarelli engine, dad treated me, brand new registered UNM96R so it didn't fall foul of the de-restricted law which came in late 77(?) It had a Huret speedo that went up to 80mph, one day my mate clocked me on his Yam RD350B, my speedo was showing 80, he clocked me at 63, unfortunately I wrote it off after a few months and then bought a Fantic Chopper which too had a six-speed Moto Minarelli engine but was nowhere as quick as the Gitane, great fun mine you. YRT192N was the reg of the Fantic.

Nibby the 70'S and a de restricted Moped was our first chance of Freedom.
Me my twin brother and mates clocked up some miles in our 12 months before driving.
What was bizarre was at 17 we could have a 250 two stroke that would do well over a 100 mph on L plates.

125s are lethal. Not enough power to stop every sod on the road cutting you up

C
I saw a lady riding a 125 in the fast group at a track day at Rockingham. She was the fastest thing round the track. Had a chap on an R1 desperately trying to stay with her and on the long banked straight he could catch her but come the first corner she'd just sail away. Every lap she'd put an extra half a second on him, it was very impressive.

Exactly Phil, for a while there were about 30 of us, all school mates zapping around the villages at night something you couldn't do on your push bike, lol.
The L plate law was ludicrous but I wasn't complaing at the time, what came apparent was I grew up too quick thinking the holy grail was a 750 and when I look back I find my happiest days were all of us zipping around on our mopeds.

Have you seen that thing they do on Facebook called 'Where's my FS1E now?' People put out their reg of the Fizzy they owned back in the day hoping someone might say it's still alive and well, I can't help thinking that most of the sports mopeds registered here in the 70s ended up in that great scrapyard in the sky, it's only in the recent 20 years(recent=20 years lol) that there has been a big interest in them again I think, a lot of the Italian mopeds you see advertised on ebay have got a kick start meaning they've been imported from Italy/France/Holland.

In Nov 2018 a friend parked his 06 QP about 100 metres away from me against the kerb facing oncoming traffic. 15 mins later an idiot ploughed into the near side while on a mobile. After protracted arguments with insurer he got £11k settlement. He wanted to wait to get a later car probably a gran turismo.

As a stop gap he bought a bike. I told him he was nuts. 3 weeks later travelling on a straight road at less than 30mph, an 80 year old woman in a toyota pulled out of a side road without warning. He T boned the passenger door and bike and legs went under the sill while he smashed into window and roof. He was touch and go for 2 weeks in ICU and eventually came out of hospital 9 weeks later with multiple broken bones and ribs, and a collostomy bag etc.

He lost 4 stone in weight and is still off work.

A bike is a lottery and should have an obligatory warning with the Dirty Harry motto 'Do you feel lucky punk'

The property we’ve been looking at has had the garage extended, then converted into an outside office/room, so the actual garage space is about 2.3m square, so, I’m thinking it’s been a while since I had a bike, perhaps a retro Triumph.....

Wow, 2/ with fuel injection; I’ll try and get my head around that notion, I’m thinking autolube on steroids!
Fuelling was a major issue on these bikes when new. Have 2 pals who own or owned one. I understand they now have a fix for the fuelling that lets them run as they should. Bonkers road bike!

I seem to remember that they couldn't quite get it right. This one ran OK.

A beautiful looking bike as well but that's what you expect from Bimota

Wow, I remember Performance Bikes raving about the V-Due when it came out. There was one in a bike garage (no longer there) on the A3 South out of Guildford. You never know, big 2-strokes might possibly make a resurgence as KTM's 2-strokes are fuel injected as of the last couple of years. I suppose it's probable the climate issues might be the final straw though.
