Well many congratulations to all the forum members. What a milestone.

I find it interesting to ponder the way the forum has developed. There is very little 'moderation' applied (something Matt had at the core of his intentions when setting up the forum) and yet it has grown to be considerate, knowledgeable, humorous and inclusive. It really is a social network as much as a knowledge based forum, and that we arrange to meet up as often as possible certainly bears this out.

Long live the courteousness, long live the humour, long live the banter and thread-drift, long live the downright daft, long live the advice with best of intentions and long live SportsMaserati Forum.

So by my reckoning only AndyK and Frank top more than 10% of total posts each and the rest of us mere mortals are picking up the slack; it is staggering looking through the members list at the number of 0 posters. Matt, does your info let you know if these members are logging on from time to time?

HEAR HEAR

One of the best things about this forum is the thread drift, it goes amazingly bizarre places and is all the better for it. Some forums slap you on the wrist if you go even a modicum off topic - worse than being back in school!

Well we have come to the conclusion that there is only so much you can talk about Maseratis and pretty much all issues and topics have already been covered.

The way to keep interest going is to swing the forum emphasis to commeradary and banter....our own social network site. Couple this with regular meets, events, fabulous Xmas doo's and foreign trips such as Le Mans and the centenary trip.

Newton, most forums contain a lot of spammers, SM does not, they are rigorously weeded out.

For example, SM is the largest forum globally based on posts. We have some 2,500 members but if you look at others, ML (14,750), MF ect, they have much more users but I guarantee a large proportion (like more than half) are spammers.

The Spammers don't cause harm, the sign up (by using a bot) and inject their website URL into their signature. Google then scans this and ranks their website based on inbound links.

I recon I have weeded some 5,000 spammers over the life of SM.

It's all going wrong over on AlfaOwner due to over moderation, an ideal time to launch SportsAlfa (coming Autumn 2013). I have been contacted by dozens of AO members offering to help and offering their support.
