Garage called me to say that the clutch wear reading was 98% and they recommend it is replaced!! Can't wait to get the car back to see the difference with a new clutch.

What else are they replacing......as its nearly all labour....best to swop all out if you can.......take a good look at flywheel too

They said they would investigate all the other components and replace if required. Do you think it's best to replace all the other components regardless ??

had you been experiencing problems before hand Omar , clutch readings are very spurios at the best of times , i did over 8000 after having my clutch read at Dick Lovetts , they told me it was a 100% worn but the car had no adverse driving affects, started to get a little bit of slip/the odd popping out of gear some 5K miles and 2 years down the line , my advice be a little cautious

I never had the gears popping out issue, but looking back at it, I think the car used to slip in second gear at low revs. I clocked it up to one of those quirky things with a Maserati.

I noticed this afternoon that my 4200 popped out of gear twice when being reversed using extremely low revs . I mean when one is backing up to park up by a wall, slowly. Clutch?

Actually mine did pop out of gear reversing up a steep hill once. I seem to remember reading somewhere that these cars hate reversing up steep hills, so I put it down to one of those things!! You live and learn!

Still love the car to bits!

Still shouldn't pop out of gear when reversing per se....ie unless it is worn......yup reversing up steep inclines best avoided!

I'd say so yes, mine went very quickly after this - would not find reverse or 1st and 3-4 seconds for changes once moving.

Clutch had life in it, but the fingers that control the plates were worn/damaged so the whole unit had to be replaced.

That's what happened to mine...in the middle of France. Towed back to Blighty to find clutch fingers has collapsed on one side, 3 weeks out of warranty! Maserati did the descent thing and supplied the parts FOC so just £700 labour to pay.

After posting about it not 24 hours ago on this thread, I think that the clutch died this evening. The car seemed to miss a gear when accelerating away from Hanger Lane on the North Circ. towards Brent Cross. Just after the flyover we hit traffic. I decided to turn off and head up through Hendon, as I got into the nearside lane, the car just stalled. I managed to restart it, only for it to die again when I engaged gear. So, I did a bit of heel toe on the pedals, turned the car over and just managed to get it into first. Keeping the revs relatively high, I stuck it into "auto" mode, staggered off of the dual carriageway and limped to my sister's house in West Finchley. I'm so grateful that here was hardly any traffic on the last two miles of my journey and that I was only two hundred yards to a turn off from the North Circ when the problem occurred . Otherwise, I would have made the traffic news!

The car died whenever I slowed to near a halt. But, it did change gear up and down in auto mode. Albeit jerkily and seemed to be hunting for a gear all of the while. And it did engage first once I'd fired her up again. Though, I had to hold about 2000 revs to stop her from stalling as I engaged gear and I didn't drive above 15mph once the problem started.

Possibly it's the clutch release bearing that's gone?

All in all, not my happiest drive. Though the car's safe at my sisters and I got home too. I shall get it sorted in the morning. The car was due a service this month. Now, I can do a clutch and release bearing replacement at the same time

Ho hum.

I know the road well, you lucky it happened there and the exit lane to go hendon is steep!!

I sure was, Dem. I managed to turn off into Brent Street, up the hill and over the Hendon Way. My sister lives on Nether St. near West Finchley tube.
