Hi

I was looking to purchase a Jaguar XK-R supercharged but then took a look at the Maserati Granturismo and thought that is nice, Ive seen one for sale in my price range a 2008 with 60k miles on it the thing that concerns me is that its a small car place that purchased it from JCT600 and its due a service now that isn't included in the price but at 48K miles service it had 7K spent on it... Ive just spoke to the dealer and they said it has also had a health check on it today paid for by the finance company of a prospective purchaser.

Does it sound ok ? to good to be true, what could cost 7k on a service.

Im coming from a porsche 911 that I dropped 10k in a full engine rebuild and gearbox, so wanted to see could I be putting myself into something that is going to bleed me dry and what else big would need money spending on it in the next 24k miles.

Thanks for any help, support or information.

Welcome to the forum Stewart; plenty of useful information on here but the single biggest you will here is 'get and independent inspection done'....

Good luck :)

A £7k service is rare, so lots of times must have been left to have been dealt with together. 4 new tyres £1k. 4 new discs and pads £2k. Clutch £2k. General big service £2k.

You'll need to check the invoices to see what was done and therefore what is likely to need doing and when. If the dealer only has the stamped book but no invoices, call the garage(s) that did the work. If it all stacks up, then pay a specialist for an inspection, and all being well, join the Maseratisti.

Forgot to say that Maser engines are very strong. They don't have the IMS/RMS issues of the engines used in the 996 and early 997 Porsches. You won't have a £10k engine issue with a 4.2 GT.

4 new discs and pads £2k - ouch :)

Whats the average time that need doing, mileage wise ? Im going to ring JCT600 tomorrow but I maybe to late as it seems finance company are acting on behalf of a buyer who hasn't seen it yet.

Don't go any buy it from underneath me now lol

I live near Pendle hill which the closest town is Burnley so Leeds isn't to far away, JCT have done a 200+vat health check today.

Message from garage selling it.

5 services performed........5 stamps by JCT600 BROOKLANDS MASERATI DEALERS IN LEEDS........They told us that at 60k miles it was a major service and cost £7k.........in last 2 years its done 5500 miles & service has now become due (900 + vat)..............air con & electrics are all working fine.....................it has been to JCT600 BROOKLANDS MASERATI today for a health check because of a potential customer wanting to buy it on finance and the finance company insisted on wanting it taken there, they paid for it (211 + vat) today..............it passed with just a report of steering rack slightly wet and small wiper cover missing...............

Yep saw those two Im moving away from red leather interior and really like the black, in terms of insurance as well just checked that and same as the porsche. Phew!

Looks like biggest costs are brakes and pads, also can you put pirrelli p zeros on as well seen them mentioned rather than bridgestones (have p zeros at moment, awesome tyres)

Bowker are in Blackburn as well, good dealers but nothing on the books there but could be worth a cheeky call to see if have any part ex ones in before they move them to the trader.

Would a health check by JCT600 (where the car was bought from sounds like a trade move on to local car dealer) count as an inspection ? Cost was 200+vat. Im going to call them tomorrow to get full history on it, assume they moved it on as more mileage/age than they sell normally.

Also another question is it worth uprating the ECU to gain more BHP, seems some feedback is the 4.2 is lacking a little power or grunt. Not driven yet so based on some feedback.

Has anyone uprated the ECU and does it feel better

I had a 4.2 and wasn't disappointed with it (have since moved on to a 4.7 MC), but it'll always depend on what you're used to. I don't know anything about remapping ECU's etc... and don't recall anything on here about it - not to say that others won't have looked at it.

Looking more likely going to buy this, gone back to the dealer and going to ring JCT tomorrow to clarify cars history and get a copy of the service records. Price wise he will drop it to 31.5 to allow for the service costs so will still cost me 32.5k. Thinking to go back at 30500 ? thoughts.

Welcome to the forum Stewart. I'm originally from the Rosegrove area but moved away many years ago. Have a word with Gary at Bowkers, he is a forum regular and very helpful.

No mate, he's at Osbaldeston. Bowkers are in the old SAAB garage opposite the Bay Horse pub on the A59.
