I wouldn't be trusting those CAP values. I've not seen a GT for sale at below £30k (not without mega miles), and can't imagine someone trading it in for £20k. And why worry about a grand here or there on a car such this? By which I mean, don't buy one in the wrong colour or spec for you, just to have a few pennies. Buy the one you like the most - you'll end up keeping it longer, which means less cash to dealers and better value to you.

Also on this looking at the price - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...page/1/make/maserati/price-to/35000?logcode=p

with the mileage - CAP is showing that the price is more like 30k, thoughts ?

Average dealer retaili £27,000 - £29,750
Private sale pricei £26,600 - £27,700
Trade in cleani £21,400 - £22,850
Trade in averagei £20,450 - £21,850
Trade in belowi £19,350 - £20,700

I wouldn't worry about the CAP prices....Looks what's for sale and that gives the idea of what you should pay......I do like the black car with the black leather as the silver stitching looks good agianst the black but if it was me I think I would go for the lower miles cars for the same money as it will not take long to hit over 70k miles with 65 miles car where as the 39k miles car will be more saleable with its lower miles later down the line.......but both look lovely and look forward to seeing pictures of the car you buy.

Comedy figures from CAP. I got offered a trade-in without pushing hard of £31.5k (4.2 '08, 27k) - but sold it privately for more very easily. For fun I put it WBAC and got offered 21k...

CAP values mean nothing like Andy says. I also agree with him on the lower miles cars.

Yep now the excitement has worn off and the fact the dealer is a small garage, Im more swaying to wait and hold back until lower mileage car comes around, saying that also this car has only done 5.5K in last two years but before that done 60k so not sure if person who owned it has changed usage patterns. I only do about 3K miles a year going to train station and back, but would want to do some longer journeys in this on occasion so this would probably go to around 5K miles a year. (just checked my porsche and Ive done 6K miles in the last 18 months)

Im going to give the chap Gary a call at Bowker and have also been introduced to a car locator guy who sources at main dealer trade before they get pushed to trade( does that make sense) ideally Id like to buy a trade in from Bowker or someone direct, get at source.

Just spoke to Richard at Richard Grace, such an honest awesome chap made me feel Maserati way to go and affordable but step back and wait, Im going to test drive where I can the Gran Turismo and Grandsport see how they make me feel as it seems the 4.7 is the daddy but out of my price range from all that I have read.

I was about to suggest RG, I have used him three times now.

I am currently in a GS but considering a GT. Many point to the fact that the GS is more of a sports xar and the GT esp in 4.2 spec may be a disappointment. ..but I guess I will have to drive one to make my own mind up.

You'll not get a 4.7 at your current preferred budget, so I'd suggest concentrating on finding the best 4.2 you can. Or save up another £10k and then go for the big daddy.

GS definitely more sporty and noticeably quicker than a GT 4.2. But for wafting up and down the M4 between Bristol and St Kats, I'd pick the GT every time. Similarly every time I go to London I take one of my QP's - never the Shamal or Cup.

Whats the average time that need doing, mileage wise ? Im going to ring JCT600 tomorrow but I maybe to late as it seems finance company are acting on behalf of a buyer who hasn't seen it yet.

Small World, we used to live in Read and often went to Sabden and over the Hill to Clitheroe. Nice place, miss it!

great place to start...Dicky is a top chap and knows his Maserati........4.7 is the way to go but looking at the classifieds the cheapest MC shift 4.7 for sale is still around 49k.....There are a few auto 4.7 for 46k but at your 32k budget that is a massive step forward......Take you time...used Richard Grace and Gary at Bowkers and I'm sure you will find the perfect car for you.

Bear in mind that a 4.2 GranTurismo and a GS have little in common apart from the badge. Nothing wrong with that mind.

FWIW the car closest to an XKR is a 4.7 auto GranTurismo but a 4.2 auto comes close. The automated clutch cars are very different to the autos in how they drive.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions.

BB is right 4.2 GT and a GS are two very different cars.......The only bit thats the same is the engine after that the whole driver experience is different.

Thanks and if possible Id love to test drive the Gran Turismo 4.7, been calculating my shares that are due to vest on Nov 15th and I think I can raise another 15K, Richard did say the 4.2 after a 911 may leave me a little disappointed but also the Grandsport is a great driver car.

Seems also the Grandsport is a good investment in terms of buy now, keep mileage low and then still sell in 12 months and not lose my shirt.
