GranSport.

I agree the 4.7 is the one to go for if budget permits as the 4.2 will see a little tame after a powerful 911.

My daily is a 4.2 GT. It's a nice motor, not a rocket ship but faster than most things on the road and more comfortable than most cars with comparable pace.
The power issue will depend which 911 you have. If you are coming from a C2 then it will be similar, if it is a GT3RS then it will feel like a big wallowy barge (I have had both).
At £32k there aren't many other cars that will offer the same levels of speed, comfort and prestige. You could drop down badge wise and go for an M6 or the Jag or maybe look at Bentley GTs but there are so many around - admittedly not an issue for a 911 driver as they are equally 'popular'.

I agree, as much it pains me to say this it all depends on how good a driver you are. Take the GT option and it says you want a car which says that something special about you, has no fuss and can advertise your presence and arrival in the form of a V8 powerhouse. For most average drivers a 4.2 will seem like the quickest thing out there.

The other option is to go for severity in that form of a C63 AMG or M5 F10, these are the cars which offer the same performance and more but with much less drama and retort than any other option!

It's hard to recommend a car but the way I see it is this, with Maserati forget all that has gone before, erase all memories of any previous test drives, arrange for the car to be test driven, once you get into the driving seat you will realise what a privilege it is and become instantly hooked on what the brand has to offer you! The exclusivity, rarity and prestige which the trident delivers is enough to get the juices flowing and gatherings in swing....

You can always buy a 4.2 and add some choice upgrades from the below....you could get an extra 30bhp or so with a power upgrade and exhaust....Not far off the 4.7 then as far as power.......They are forum sponsors as well...

A 4.2 won't seem like the quickest thing out there to anyone, regardless of their 'average driver' credentials.
It is plenty fast enough, though if the only consideration is speed neither the 4.2 or 4.7 is the best car to buy for the money.

With not being able to work and not having loads of funds having my 4200cc is my dream. would love to be be able to one day have 4.2GT its the style and the badge plus a 4.2 is plenty enough get up and go for me. before I even thought of a Maserati I tried Porsche and a Jag XKR. But none really had the passion of the Maserati.

If you are lucky enough to go for a 4.7 go for it, if you can't the 4.2 will still give you a grin and remember its the style and the design of the car that makes it such a superb car.

good luck with your search

You are dead right Lee.....There are quicker, better handling, better build cars out there for the same money.......The Maserati is a flawed Gem no doubt about it......But the thing is the others are not a Maserati .... It's hard to explain but the marque drags you in and will not let go and no matter what else you buy no matter how much of a better car it is as a Maserati fan only Maserati will do.....

Agree. Even the 4.7 is 'slow' for the money but it's plenty fast enough for me and in sport manual gives me what I want on a twisty, dry, quiet road.

My head hurts lol... I have a Carrera 2 so not a turbo neck breaking machine but great for flat line floor it, which I don't do that often but its fun on the country roads here me apart from in the wet when its interesting.

Agree the Jag I so love to sit in and roar but it doesn't hold that presence, the Maserati just sounds a beast and looks a beast - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnaMSSXBwwY

Yep its the presence of the V8 that draws me the Maserati, Ive been toying with taking the easy route and getting a 996 Turbo with X50 upgrade which is a tremendous car for speed and fun but again its the when do I really floor it that much that I can make the most of it don't do the track.

When I had the Jag XKR supercharge it was the noise and presence of driving it with power but an exhaust that sounded a beast.

Im taking this week off from it and focusing back on work, book some test drives for next few weeks and then go for it

Thanks and if possible Id love to test drive the Gran Turismo 4.7, been calculating my shares that are due to vest on Nov 15th and I think I can raise another 15K, Richard did say the 4.2 after a 911 may leave me a little disappointed but also the Grandsport is a great driver car.

Hi Stewart,

I feel your pain I have a 4.2 QP but desperate for a 4.7 in Bianco Fuji but the extra £15k cost to change won't be available until December and I just know the car I am after will be long gone by then.

If I were you I would hang on until your shares mature then go for the 4.7 you will not regret it best of luck ! :goodluck:

SO you have the choice of two at the moment Moparmuff...Dicky one and one at another dealer with in you face red leather inside......Would imagine they are an acquired taste on the QP so you may be lucky come December and they still may be around...Fingers crossed for you.

Spot on Andy, I quite like the red interior (it has black alcantara inserts btw) and they just dropped the price again ! I am so tempted
I thought you had a penchant for a red interior no ?
