oil feed pipe nut fail

Whilst changing the matrix I had to drain the coolant ,when I removed the under tray I discovered a nice puddle of oil after further investigation discovered that the oil pipe nut had failed ( cracked) so great ! but could of been a **** lot worse ,so every cloud and all that .

So four options to fix it .
1. New pipe £420 plus vat and fitting 3 to 4 hours circa £800 plus
2. Second had pipe plus labour £500 ish
3. Remove the pipe and get a new end fitted £400 if possible
4. come up with a cheaper solution.

So option 4 was chosen and in conjunction with Voicey I designed and manufactured at work a 2 piece split nut . This eliminates having to remove the pipe from the car and should only take 30mins to a hour to fit . The original is made of alluminim so no wonder it fractures over time . I made mine out of a alloy / bronze .
Really happy with the results and will be fitted on the car by Voicey at the weekend when he comes to refit my new airbag ecu .
Here's a pic of the nut and a trial on the car to make sure it fitted

Brilliant John, I'll take 10 please.

I would like to see how it performs first just to make sure it will work over time , so the plan is to fit it and do a few hundred miles and check for any leaks etc . Last thing I want is it to fail and wreck some ones car from oil starvation .

Good to see you are using your track only tyres...
I was wondering when some one was going to notice them . There are going to be replaced after llandow (badly worn on the inside edge only had 4 wheel alignment done last year too ,so need to get it done again but want to raise the ride height back up I lowered it to low !

Great work John. Lovely piece of intelligence & engineering. A joy to see.

Funny how some people would only ever come up with 2 or 3 options. Man after my own heart....there are always more then 2 or 3 options in my book.

Thats genius. That should be on dragons den. Im sure that design could be used in many other applications.

Pipe collars are used widely in a number of fields. Your application/adaptation, if I may say, is a superb piece of thought and work.

Mav told me about this when we spoke yesterday and I praised his work. Seeing it now it is even better than I envisaged. Top work John!
