Don't forget the insurance company may stipulate where it is repaired, they like to use only there own approved body shops these days.

They might like to say where it gets done, but you will ultimately have the power to choose. Had the same issue when I hit a Deer, they said Bob the bodger would do it just as well as the main dealer I gold them to FRO and it was done by Meridian.

Oh, and I then changed insurance companies at renewal time as they tried to r@pe me to get their money back.
Put it this way, A-Plan insured all 4 cars for less than what they wanted for just the Maser.

Thanks for all your kind words and advice guys, it's great that a new member here feels supported in circumstances like these, real feeling of community, thank you.

I'll keep you posted on the inevitable tussle I will have with the insurance company.

on a related subject, does anyone know a good builder to repair the wall?
As stated earlier, I'm on the outskirts of Hemel.
Unfortunately, no one I know can recommend one and I don't want to take pot luck by going through the yellows.

After quality work rather than a cheap job.

Cheers.

Oh, and this is what he did to his car!
30 mph apparently.
so you can see the wall took the brunt of the impact.

That seems a lot of damage for 30 mph!

That's what I thought, but I suppose if he was changing a CD or texting etc and took his eye off the road a 30mph impact could be quite devastating if there's no attempt to brake before hand.
it seems he gave himself a black eye due to raising his hands in a defence reflex and the air bag hitting his fist against his eye. if he was braking at the time I'd have thought he would have his hands on the wheel.
Sounds like he looked up and saw the wall coming towards him at a rate of knots and flinched into the hands across the face pose.
In any case, I think he's lucky the police did not attend, they were too busy with fallen trees and the like.

mac, sorry to read about this. What are the odds? Hope it gets sorted quickly and painlessly.....and if needs be, a suitable replacement is found.

gutted for you

I've used Bill McGrath for service work and have been great, seen some of the old restoration and all look impressive so worth calling.

if anyone recommends a great place maybe worth getting the 3200 trailored (should also be covered under the insurance)

Mike has a good point - maybe get the purchase value from a write off

either way hope you get this sorted with no hassle

At least it's Italian!

Gutted for you.

Been following this thread and reading all from the beginnning - I was just about to post saying hope the other car was Italian and lo! beaten too it.
Who does 30mph in a car park?
Insurance companies seem not to know much about the value of these cars - they nearly repaired my 1999 3200 with an £18K repair quote - if you can justify its worth they will up their offer.
Insurance (the third party) should cover the wall as well

not 30 in a car park RSM, they were traveling along the road outside my house and veered onto the drive.
I've been chasing insurance companies all day today, what a nightmare, seems even the one I pay for is inept!

Sorry must have misunderstood - I saw the gravel under the smashed up Punto and assumed it was a carpark - I didnt realise it was in your drive.
Either way a terrible shock and I hope it all works out for you - insurance companies are incredibly inept except at putting up premiums and charging forservices they rarely provide.

Well, the school kids at the insurance companies are muttering about it being written off without any proper assessment being done yet, so looks like I may need to start my hunt again.
having done six months research on 3200s before taking the plunge, and thinking about broadening my search to include 4200s, s there a 101 about what to look for above and beyond the usual 3200 checks?
I've read on here some good points about CC boxes, but don't even know if they can be used in traffic.
Suppose I'm just being a bit lazy but I really don't want months of research in front of me again
I know I'm being a bit pessimistic about mine being a total loss, but just want to get the ducks in a row now, just in case
Any help appreciated guys.
Cheers.

Mark, are you going to have it transported up to Autoshield as Dicky suggested? Obviously they'd need to cover their costs, but they won't condemn it unnecessarily. It's a prime example by all accounts and so this must afford it a little more head room?

As for the CC box, I'm happy to pop down and let you have a go in mine if you want?

Thanks once again for all the support everyone.

I decided that if it does get repaired I want to keep an eye one it and maybe take a photo diary for my own and potential future owners benefit.
My logic is, if I come to sell anytime, I'll have rear paint that's 12 years older than the front , anyone worth their salt should notice this so want to have some evidence of what happened and how it was rectified.
Taking this into account, Autoshield is just too far away, so I went to take a look at Bill McGraths work this afternoon and was impressed enough to transport it there.

Really good of you to offer a go in yours Miles, if it come to it I may take you up on your offer, thank you.

Gutted for you ! Couldn't believe it when I read it at the weekend. I have only had mine for around 6 weeks and think I would be suicidal if this happened...keep your chin up, stick with the 3200 !!

You won't go wrong with Bill McGrath either Mark, their reputation is enviable, and if they're close enough to keep an eye on proceedings then all the better. Did you see the A6G Zagato? Poetry in motion.

The ride is there whether you need it or not, but I really hope you don't need it, but rather choose it as a comparison to a perfectly repaired 3200.
