Sounds like a plan as good as any! Maybe we should start making each decision in life this way and carry a coin at all times for this purpose ;)

The point is not to make the decision, it's to work out which outcome you actually want. If the coin says walk away, and you get en emotional reaction that that's 'bad' you know you actually want the car

With regards tyres I always advice cracking and perishing and how old they are from the manufactured age.
Can only fail if cords exposed.
With advisory's you can comment what you like.

I flicked a coin for my last three work placements...and just trusted in fate...things worked out fine for me.

My A/C compressor went last year; inspected prior to driving to Italy and told 'slight play in A/C Pully'...siezed less than 600 miles later.

I received the written report back from Milgliore tonight. Wasn't quite what I expected as not the most detailed report in the world. Maybe I was spoilt a bit by the excellent McGrath report conducted on the 4200/GS recently. The McGrath one I dropped the car into their workshop and left it with them. This was £225 + VAT so £270. Vic from Milgliore kindly organised to travel from Bromsgrove to Cardiff to do this one on-site for me. This was £400 + VAT so £480.

I am not sure if there is so much more detail to the 4200/GS one as there was much more wrong with it or the inspections weren't quite like for like. I found out as well that the previous buyer who dropped out last month paid Milgiore to conduct a workshop PPI on the car while it was in having the variator work done. I asked for a copy of this after I paid for my inspection but unfortunately they don't keep copies of the reports and the customer gets the only copy.

The QP appears to be in far better fettle than the 4200, but that's not a surprise. The 4200 was known to be cheap for a reason. But your note reads almost as if you're disappointed that they didn't find more faults with the QP, and that would a strange standpoint.

If it's tugging at heart strings, buy it. If it isn't, don't. Simple.

The man speaks the truth.

It's not a bad price and looks a nice car/colour etc. Therefore it comes down to your gut. Sounds to me like you're looking for every and any reason to still buy it, even is the seller is a bit of a tosser.

I suspect that i'd be similar. I'd want it and be disappointed at the idiot who was conspiring to make me not buy it. For those that understand coaching, it's a TKF thing or Think, Knower, Feeler.

Not disappointed more wasn't found. I would prefer it to be good. I guess the main difference is a workshop PPI against an on-site PPI. I'm sure if a car was on a ramp and under workshop conditions a more detailed inspection could be had. It just wasn't feasible to do this really so this is the best that could be done in the circumstances.

The only thing I have asked for that I'm not sure about is if a diagnostic machine gets plugged in and any stored or current error codes/conditions read and detailed. Not sure if this was possible on-site so have asked for confirmation.

I think I was a little spoilt by such a simple purchase on my 2007 4200. It was virtually as new so not much wrong so a much easier decision.

Yes, agreed on the whole. It has been harder when it could have been much easier. It wouldn't have taken much to get me over the line on this one. It hasn't really been forthcoming though. I feel like I have been doing all the leg/donkey work. A bit more help and we would have had a done deal by now. At the end of the day I don't need the car although it is decent enough. I'm a serious buyer as have the money, have paid a £500 deposit and just wanted some help to get me over the line. It took a bit of convincing to get the seller to get agree to get a new MOT on the car as only had one month left. Just seemed like too much work to work a deal on this one that it should have been much quicker and easier.

It isn't easy to sell a car like this as we all know so thought a bit more help wouldn't have gone a miss. I shouldn't imagine there is a long queue of potential punters.

Is the Maserati diagnostic device a handheld device & can be take/used for an onsite PPI or can it only be used in a workshop environment as is too big?

It's a laptop but doubt they would take it to a site visit as it is 1) expensive and 2) needed back at the garage!

Very good point

Have to say, though, that every time my car has been plugged into an SD, it's been lying in the corner, un-used....
