I'm definitely in the "like" camp for the interior. I'm also tickled by the photographing location being the local jetwash.

Had a look at RX07LUF, but didn't like the two-tone interior

I had a look at this car in late June (at the car wash), and paid Motorline Maserati Cardiff to check it over. It seemed to me to run well, and as has been mentioned, since then the Cam Variators have been done at Migliore in Bromsgrove. Motorline found a few things to complain about, but nothing too serious. Steve seems a nice guy, but very much a one-man band - not sure what after-sales would be like. I did not buy it as I couldn't live with the two-tone interior, didn't see any value in the rear entertainment system, and thought it was a little expensive at £20,995.

Also looked at M1KBH in Maidstone - fantastic price (£17,000) but worrying history.

I see LJ09HCH (pre-facelift 2009) is still for sale at Car Plaza in Ilford, with the price INCREASED from £22,995 to £24,995.

In the end I bought a facelift 2009 QP from Grant at Kevin Martin Cars in Scunthorpe in July which is still running 2,500 miles later, although I'm trying to get a few niggles sorted out before the warranty expires.

Thanks for that. Interesting to know. Wow it was expensive at £21k back then. He has had it for a while then. Might be back as far as Jan going by the service history. I can't see it worth any more than £17k for me. There are plenty of QP's around and DS Sport GT are around as well. I will see if a deal can be done but if not I'm in no rush to get a QP. It will happen. Just need to find the right car/time/price.

What model/spec facelift did you get? Is that a 4.7? Are they all 4.7 facelift on now?

I got the basic 4.2 without paddles. 35,000 miles. Nero with Cream interior. Was listed with heated seats, but actually didn't have them, so the dealer paid for aftermarket ones, which was good.
Dick Lovett in Swindon gave it a pretty clean review. Phew!
Fixed the boot lid re-grab problem with a sticky pad on the spring - extraordinary!
Sat Nav improved when I switched the mapping from Belgium to the UK.
Now working on getting fixes for parking sensors, siren battery and trim niggles at Migliore next week.

Sounds nice....and expensive ;)

They made a bit of an error that cost them on the heated seats then! Good that they stuck to that and resolved the issue.

Is that the same issues the 4200's boot lid have where they sometimes don't latch every time?

Yes, £2k for the car, which was £5k over my budget, but was seduced by the facelift. They did well on the heated seats - no quibbles at all. They have some nice stock: How about a Bentley Brooklands for £12,995?

£2k....that's cheap ;)

My brother just bought a Bentley Mulsanne for about £10k I think. Bit too ostentatious for me I think.

When you unlock the boot, it pops up a bit and then re-locks. Something to do with the boot not opening enough to tell the sensor that it is open and doesn't need shutting again.
Solutions are:
- Whole new motors, latch etc - maybe £2,000
- Replace the latch - maybe £500
- Replace the lift struts - maybe £400
- Replace the spring which pops the boot open - maybe £200
- Put a washer behind the spring - maybe £100
- Stick a felt pad (like for the bottom of furniture) on the end of the spring to make it 3mm longer - maybe 50p
I think the forums (MaseratiLife this time) saved me about £2k! http://www.maseratilife.com/forums/qp5-2003-2012/13035-trunk-lock-re-grab.html

Great, very nice fix. Well done. The power of the Forum again ;)

Just dropped you a PM btw if you can help with that it would be appreciated.

I could do with some 2p's worth from anyone who fancies chipping in on this one ;)

I did a deal on the QP from Superior Cars although it has taken a few weeks to get to this point for various reasons. I agreed a price of £17k with Steve when it was up for £17995 subject to a specialist inspection from Migliore and paid a £500 refundable deposit if the car wasn't as described.

Vic @ Migliore kindly went to inspect the car for me today. I have also found out that a previous buyer who pulled out of a previous sale in September had the car inspected by Migliore when they had the car in recently to have the variators done. The deal fell through so it went back on the market for £19k. Initially the car was up for £21k in the summer I believe then £18k before the variators then £19k after. Vic said the car is decent enough and has a few little cosmetic bits but for a 9 year old car with 57k miles is as you would expect. I am fine with this.

However he specifically mentioned that front tyres were cracked which was a bit strange. The brakes are not in great shape and although they are fine for the moment will need replacing soon but not immediately. Lastly the air con compressor was worn/noisy and is likely to be on its way out. It may last 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, 5 years who knows but it was showing signs of wear and failure is likely at some point.

I went back to Steve and said I was fine with the tyres/brakes as I can replace those as consumables over time. Although on reflection I'm not sure I'm happy with cracked tyres now. It is/was well overdue its 2 year service which should have been done in Jan 2016 latest really and the air con compressor was an issue. Vic told me it is £600 for the a/c part and maybe £200 to fit. The oil/filter was changed when the variators was done so maybe £500 to do the balance of the service to get that up to date. Therefore I thought that is £1300 that needs spending so I offered to split that 50/50 with Steve so sale price at £16350.

Steve came back and didn't see it the same way and said thanks for the offer but no thanks. He will/has reduce the price on Ebay to £16995 until the end of the listing and see what he gets. If he sells it for more then fine if he doesn't he will let me have it for £16350 when the listing ends if unsold.

Now I don't want to renege on a deal and I don't want to seem unreasonable. However the inspection has thrown a curveball. Should I not worry about these things and continue with the deal at £17k? Should I walk away? Or should a fair point be somewhere in between?

The service now added to the listing on 01.09.16 @ 57,000 miles by a maserati specialist is not totally accurate as that was an oil/filter change only when the variators were done. Nothing else was done.

A penny for your thoughts??

Suppose it's about if the car is priced taking the above into account. If all the above was not an issue would this car be worth more money in today's market. You have to decide could you get a car that doesn't need the work doing for the same money or not. Hard one this. Maybe worth talking to Dicky about the price etc as he will give you good advice.

Tricky. I personally don't think you can expect no issues on a second hand car. Are you happy to pay £18300 for the car? If not, walk away. You're not reneging on a deal at all.

Thanks. I think if there was one less issues it would have helped push me over the line. The service is £500. The a/c £800. The tyres maybe £200 each so £400. The brakes circa £800 maybe. Total of all is £2500 so makes it a £19.5k car really.

Would I pay that with all these done & not an issue? No I don't think so. Hard one to gauge.

I know any car will need some things doing but £2.5k is a bit more than I envisaged short term. The alloys are not blemish free so if I wanted that dealt with then they need a refurb. How far do you go.
