Check the distance between the viewer and the screen as your eyes will not pick up much above 4k unless your nose it touching it.

Our sofa is c14ft from the screen hence the 75" jobby here... and totally get why a soundboard is a poor choice hence 5.1 here too, great for a thriller when you hear the foot steps coming from behind you.

4K is great, but I would also highlight the true blackness of an LG OLED, they really are one of the best TVs out there. There’s no going back once you’ve watched one for a while.
I have 3 x LG OLED and an older Beovision 11-55. The Oled wins hands down, which I suppose is why Bang & Olufsen now partner with LG.

My bavk lounge had a 2016 Sony HD projector ( excuse the hanging bulb, I only ever took a photo on day one)

I suppose I need to go somewhere and have a look with my eyes and ears. Was hoping to avoid the separate soundbar, but that looks unavoidable.

Measure the distance from where you sit now and then use the same at the shop...and remember they use special recordings to display their TV to the best... ask to see normal reception rather than a 5k recording played via a special DVD player in slow mo.

I have an LG with 4K and I am so glad I got 4K its well worth it. I have linked the optical output from the TV to my old Panasonic Dolby surround amplifier and it sounds excellent. Not a fan of sound bars as I don't think the surround effect really works.
I am constantly surprised at how much of current TV is available in 4K, most of you tube, all BBC i-player, I have netflix with 4K and most of amazon prime is 4k. And the picture quality is truly epic. If you have not had a look at 4k TV you really should.

You think the picture quality is epic until you watch a 4k Blu-ray , they you realise how compressed the 4k streams are , there are plenty of 4k HDR videos on YouTube that show off the full capability of a 4k HDR TV

I've got a 65" LG Oled TV , had it about 3 years now , not all 4k screens are the same , there's a reason why some of them are £500 and some £2000 , it's all about the blacks.

Echo's of the audiophile rabbit hole....Just because the picture is epic doesn't mean the content is any good! I remember buying audiophile recordings. Oh so beautifully recorded but I just didn't like the medieval madrigals I was now listening to! Nothing beats a good tune or a decent story.

Agree. I’m still running my 60”and 50” Pioneer Kruro from 2009. Had them professionally setup. For me still the best picture by far. It was called the ‘directors tv’ I think.

There's more choice today for home entertainment than there's ever been.

I agree there are some parallels with audiophiles but until you experience the difference between a £500 4k TV and a £2000 4k TV you won't get it

The quality of a 4k Blu-ray lifts a film , watch a 4k HDR video of animals in the wild on YouTube , the detail is astonishing.

Ditto, still running in the main lounge my 2007 Pansonic 37" TH-37PX600 Plasma, its still brilliant. The new monster will be for the kitchen/diner wall.

Available on Ebay for £60!!!! The stand cost me £600 on its own

Agreed, plus curved and 3D gizmos are just gimmicks that you spend extra for, that have no real benefit. Plus the in-built apps no longer work as theyt upgrade too.

Just give me a big flat monitor with decent proccessing. I know that the next year's model will be better than this year's. The OPs reccommendation will be out of date in September, but bargains are to be had in July/August.

Likewise, our Pioneer Kuro is now in my daughters room, great picture but not as good as our LG OLED. We are also still using a Pioneer Plasma from about 2005 (43") but it is not really up to today's quality!
