Ok a quick up-date on the family addition, collected by mid-day and enjoying the smooth and cosseting drive back from darkest Norwich to the Midlands, pulled onto the A14 from the A11 and accelerated past the slow moving lorry on the inside lane, only to be confronted by what turned out to be the remnants of a scaffold board right in my path........smack goes the o/s/f wheel.........

After pulling over and inspecting the damage i was please to find that nothing obvious was damaged, however it transpires further down the road at Cambridge that i have major vibration through the steering, so i quick visit to Kwikfit is required, well you can all guess the the outcome......one buckled o/s wheel, they also checked the n/s for me and it turns out this is slightly out of shape as well....B****cks!!!!!!.

Anyway can buckled wheels be safely repaired ?

Andy.

PS the tyres show no marks or damage at all !!!!

Hum, get a salvage pair form David Askew, the alloys tend to crack so I wouldn't chance it.

What a pain and on your virgin journey too, you'll look back and laugh later.

Enjoy

I cracked an alloy (same 20 inch rims as yours) last winter and got a replacement from Eurospares.

It depends on how bad and where the buckle is, but if it's not cracked then buckled wheels can be re-shaped. Maybe speak to the guys at Lepsons, or a quick internet search should bring up some options more local to you.

That's a bu44er - I hope you get it sorted soon then you can get down to enjoying the car, which looks superb.

Welcome to QP ownership, from another Executive GT owner :)

I'll have an ask around tomorrow for you. They're 20" Sport GT wheels I see. They'll be dear from Maserati, I think about £750 each, but second hand more like £300 or so. What a pain in the backside that is, on your first outing, I feel for you.

These are often on the US eBay....normally as sets, but well worth having a look.

Ok chaps looks like i'll be ordering a new wheel from Eurospares at a reasonable cost of £410.00 + vat and getting the others fully repaired, is this the time to canvas opinion on a possible change of colour to a subtle grey/anthracite shade.

What is the forums opinion ?

I'm late to this thread. I missed it somehow. Andy, I've just made the same switch from 4200 to QP. It feels as if I've grown up.

......from a 12 to a 14 year old!

A slightly darker grey would be my choice, but I wouldn't go too dark. Personal preference.

I would go the darker shade that was available as an option on these wheels......

I searched high and low for this around a 18 months ago, and couldnt find it! I think it might have been found since. GrayPaul told me "we dont know the paint code, but if you bring them to us, we'll do them the colour to match the QP wheels" (I've got a GranSport).

One of the guys who went to DMS in their GS (sorry forgot the name) had a colour called Shadow Chrome I think. Simon will remember, we all thought it a great colour.
Aloy Magic in Poole will fix most buckles by putting it in the oven then centrafuging it and xraying it before a full respay job. Usually about £90 a wheel if quite bad. Living in Dorset I can confirm they are kept quite busy.

Those 7 spokers are prone to getting flat spots and deep pot holes are the enemy but because they are quite soft they repair quite well.

Best wheels for a QP by far, mind you I quite like the QP GTS wheels.

I bought a spare front and rear from Meridien at £320 each

Bit late to the thread, but if this is not too late: I also had a buckled QP wheel last year, and these guys – just down the M5 from you AndyG - sorted it wonderfully for £75. Highly recommended: http://www.reinventingthewheel.co.uk

Depends how bad the damage is but they know what they are doing (they do work for several main dealers and at least one Maserati independent). Of course they also spray to any colour and do all other repairs.
