It looks a bit radioactive....

Interesting toy; normal car is V4 2000cc 185hp manual or automatic.

This one is a V6 1-MZ 3000cc and can produce 310hp easily with the TRD supercharger. I had a gearbox management/computer made for it, to give it full auto/flappy paddle/race mode. The V6 polished and chrome engine is aluminium and is the same weight as the stock V4. The mid-engine rear wheel drive car weighs just over 1200 kg making it exciting to drive on twisty roads but you really have to respect it in the wet, because it will try to kill you. It is the only one known to be in existence with this type of setup and is going up for a photo shoot on Wednesday to appear in several car magazines around about Christmas time.

The Maserati will give me a comfortable performance car which I look forward to using in France. Last summer we often nipped over on a Friday evening and spent a couple of nights in different French chateaux eating some excellent food.

Just out of interest I phoned the insurance company for a quote that came in at £960 with 75% discount, I was expecting more than this and was very surprised.

I too very nearly bought one , only thing that held me back was the 2 seater bit , bringing up 2 kids on me own ruled that out , so i went the other Japenese route and had a series of RX7's followed by a new RX8 in 2004 , now they were fun cars , and handling to match ,even made a very average driver like me look good , i was even thinking of applying to go on the tv program (skating on ice) haha the RX8 was that easy to drift about ............ then i grew up and bought a masser or grew down as the case maybe

The MR2 is good fun; I will keep it and just take it out when I want to play. I have two crazy friends, one has just put an Audi V8 engine in a MK1 MR2 and the other one is just having built an Mk2 MR2 with the V8 Lexus engine in it.

Anyhow that's enough talking about Japanese cars, tell me more about these beautiful Italian Maserati's. I just love the name Maserati; it has a ring about it that says style and performance. Have any of you had engine or suspension modifications.

Totally agree, Maserati just oozes Kudos and class by the bucket load, a lot more so than Ferrari which is considered ( too much of a look at me car ) but i would still love a 575 or a scag. Maserati has a similar Kudos to Aston Martin tho a lot rarer but similarly is steeped in racing heritage , and such a joy to own , also owners seem to be a lot more rounded and grounded , one only has to spend a a few hours on the Fezza forums to see the type of owners.

Modifications ; Its all relative to cost here Michael , there's a lot more one can do now than 5 years ago , within reasonable cost limits engine wise is a remap BY DMS which increases bhp to approx 425-430, also Larini stainless decat/sports cat exhaust system can add possibly another 10Bhp but enhances that high revving V8 sound to another level , Claims by the yanks that a BMC air filter increases bhp to me seem ludicrous and are yet to be proven

Various companies offer a supercharger kit which can raise the 390bhp as high as 570 bhp but this costs in the region of £15K which frankly is out of most peoples budget for what frankly is already a 2nd or 3rd car , remember the 4200 engine block designed and built by Ferrari is the very same and precursor to the Ferrari 430, only the stroke and top end differ slightly so 570 bhp is still well within safe limits

Brake upgrades are available now by Brembo and Formula Dynamics along with stiffening anti roll bars /suspension springs ecu upgrades and of course the Formula dynamics Drive by wire which increase the speed and take up of the gear changes , worth looking on their site for some ideas , bits often become available on here so worth keeping an eye out

Hope this helps and gives you some reading on a lonely night hahaha

I find those DMS figures hard to believe, a re map taking power up to 430 bhp, 34hp increase, i cant see how that is possible as the car is not turbo'd so the tuning potential interms of a re map is not that big. To put it clearer, a Nissan GTR with a re map will increase hp by around 40hp and that has 2 turbo's.

There will be few on here Adam that had there cars on the rolling road before and after and have the printout , even Dans MC shift i think increased his up to 505 BHP i believe , an increase of well over 34 bhp

What experience is your disbelief based upon , what you have read or physically experienced

I believe the original factory output figures were under stated to keep that output distance from the prancing carthorses....;)........and may well have been over the 400 bhp mark to start with.........

Unless it's effectively running de-tuned in stock format Adam....

Welcome Michael...An MR2? before the Maser i had a modified MG TF 160.. I had my lessons there, then jumped into something more serious! But it's the only mid-engined car, that has the worst weight balance front/rear... But it was a great toy!

My mates brother has a Mitubishi Evo 8, 340hp stock, re mapped and it producd no more than 370, was not possible to screw any more power out of it unless the turbo was modified. His daily drive car is a Clio 182, re mapped, 190hp was all it could achieve.

What i really find hard to beleve with rolling roads is this, Benny's 4200 spyder standard produces 386 bhp, with a re map and a sports exhaust it has 470 i remeber him saying so that is a 84hp increase over standard. I dont how the 4.2 can produce more BHP than the 4.7.

Dan's GT S has 440hp in standard form, re mapped at 505, so that is a 65hp increase. What i dont understand is how an older car with a smaller capacity engine and less torque developed larger amount of bhp increase with a re map?????

Lastly, a member on here had a BMW M6, he was telling me that he had his car re mapped, it produced 507 in standard form, re mapped, max output was 510. The technician said to him near enough all rolling roads are tampered with to generate less friction on the wheels allowing the rollers to spin quicker therefore the power output is higher.

So IMO a lot of rolling road figures are total garbage.
