Agree completely which is why Maserati need a smaller coupe to start from - V6 bi turbo and no more than 1500/1600kg starting weight - ie a true 3200/4200 replacement.

Porsche are very clever with the 911 and have managed to keep its footprint small to help road positioning and weight. You don't need eight or ten cylinders if weight and size are kept down.

They must have GT3 / 4 aspirations? It would make a certain amount of sense after the single make series they've been running. If they can shave enough weight to make the power to weight ratio make sense, and can nail the handling and braking, then it could be a competent rival to the Astons, Nissans, 'Vette's etc?

Agree Miles....Size isn't the issue........As long as all the other bits are right it could be a stunner......but I suspect they haven't done enough...Here's hoping.

My point was not that one off supercars are pointless, absolutely not my view. My point was that if you are making a track tool/sharp edged sports car you wouldn't start with a large heavy four seater GT, as the case here.

In many markets BIG is BETTER(hey get out of my way). If Maserati can sell a stripped out GT MC Stradale for more money than a fully kitted out car then good for them, we need them to stay in business.

The MC Stradale won't be a huge impact on the financial health of the company. It's built to order, don't expect more than 10-20 a year I guess. It's really there so to be able to say they have a sporty car, rather than just luxurious GTs.

10-20 per country? If its that rare it should hold its value well.

I am told Italy will likely see 4-5 orders a year for a couple of years. Can't think many more orders will come from overseas.

this seems like such a wasted opportunity! it looks utterly amazing IMO but either price it lower = make more = sell more = make money OR price it high = make less = sell less, but = a truely great "Sports" figurehead for the brand...

Maserati is basically saying to us "We know luxury GT, but we've now made a track weapon...here it is" but anyone who nows 2 bob about sports cars takes one look at the price / weight / horsepower equation and immediately knows it isn't.

IMHO this devalues the brand in the eyes of non-maseratisti, as it suggests Maserati don't really know what "sporty" is despite what their marketeers slabber. They've got the engine, the looks, and the pedigree to match ANY manufacturer out there...why don't they use them? I know the convential wisdom is that ferrari have dibbs on the Super Car catagory, but then as mentioned above, what about the Alfa 8C? that must be break some unwritten rule surely? There must be room for another true perfomance Maserati supercar, other than the MC12, that is still exclusive, but people can actaully buy?! I'll bet a fiver that my GranSport with Larini decat, FD DBW and ECM will be quicker than the MC stradale. how does that make any sense :(

rant over - i still love you

I have to be honest, although disappointed by the package provided (mostly in terms of lack of a serious power upgrade), given how well the car is doing in GT4, I bet this will actually be a serious track car. Still not a GT3 beater.

The car was on public display today and the dedicated website now has all the details/interior photos.

http://www.maseratigranturismomcstradale.com/?uid=6056727931&mid=600279884#/home

Reading through one option is the Maserati Racing Kit which includes Maserati suit/Helmet etc.

Carbon Ceramic Brakes all round, so thats a 10k price bump right away.

Also various decals including a dubious anti reflective strip across the top of the windscreen that says Maserati (you know, like people had on their Cortina 20 years ago that said Kev and Sharon)

Yeh, but despite all the track looking stuff, Porsche will still be laughing at how much it weighs. On a track, weight is everything and that car would be seriously embarrassed on many a track day.

...with you on that mate. However, having driven a few Caterham's round some tracks, I do wonder why people don't have one of those on a trailer in the garage next to a Maser 4.7 with a Range Rover (+tow bar) parked outside. You see that's the sort of person who this car as aimed at and my 'garage' as listed makes more sense. All IMHO....

Anyone wanting the ultimate track thrill will have a Caterham, Lotus 2 11, etc....Thats for sure Bigbob...........I bet half of these that sell will n ot even see a track and will be bought by people who like to have their egos massaged to show they have the best of the breed.
