Thanks for that! Throw up a couple of pictures of those new shiny boys!

After a bit of faffing about, I'm going to model up the hub and simulate the loads in situ as well. Mostly out of interest.

So the lab in Melbourne has finally received my sample. Probably a few more days before I get the test results. I've started modelling the top arm.

Any betting men out there on what the arms are made of? I'm also getting a bunch of surface hardness tests to look for hardening treatments and forging.

Maybe a silly question but why can’t these be pushed/pulled out? Does anyone know what the joint is and if you can get them anywhere else?
Quarantine has made me do some strange things!

Ooof, what an effort pulling that our on jack stands!

The ball joints can't be pulled out and the shape of the arm means they can't be pressed either. Whatever the alloy for the arms is, it is way too brittle to survive that kind of action anyway.

How on earth did 3200 josh get that assembly out with the limited kit & space he had. I'd want a two post car lift minimum. The mans a hero.

Let’s just say I needed to be fairly flexible, and massively patient!

Say you got one out, could you press a new one in without too much damage?

Without hijacking this thread, does anyone know the best way to get the rear shocks out?

Also, has there been any progress on the Arms?

If it is anything like the 4200 you have to strip
the boot lining and then reach in next to the petrol tank to get to the top bits.

Eurospares do a pattern part from the OEM manufacturer which is probably your best bet.

never done shock on my 3200 so unsure about fasteners. The QP did involve some fiddling inside the boot to disconnect skyhook cable but think bolts accessed from wheel bay.

Lambertius, have you sectioned an arm through the ball joint yet? It looks to me like the arms are forged around the joint capsule. The forging line down the arm is a clue. I work for a company that fabs doodads from nonmetallic materials (ceramics mostly) and am used to machining with diamond and ceramic cutters. Machining out the old ball joint would not be a problem, however there is not much aluminum around the capsule to support a replacement if a suitable replacement could be found. I am following your progress with interest.
