Very brave choice Loz to take on someone elses dream, not sure I'd be too comfortable.

It is an oportunity to have as close to the real thing as is possible - after all it is almost all Maserati to begin with which is more than most replicas are.

As i posted earlier just went to see these people this morning , http://www.shapecraft.com/frameset.html and my spirits have been well and truly lifted , have they got some street cred or what in the maserati world, Clive the owner such a lovely down to earth chap ,totally on my level which is superb , they have around 8-10 projects on the go at the moment and have done quite a number of 300 s 450 s a6g projects in the past , also they have this car Classic-Massa-1.jpg in at the moment which apparently had an argument with the arnco at goodwood earlier this year

he also did this one for Steve Hart of ( steve Hart Racing ) which is a very well known car 300 s.jpg and also this one for another client a beauty.jpg , and it has a tiger moth engine

Just got to go down and view , cant wait

Both those last two were at Stanford hall the year i first met you Frank , if they ring any bells , he's done a couple since for Steve Hart , and he really was trying to persuade me to do one of these instead of the 300 s ,

1956-maserati-300s-7_800x0w.jpg

he reall wants to do this one most of all , he's already assured me that it will fit on the chassis no probs 3500 red 1.JPG

Loz,

That would be an awesome project. Watch out of you do go for a 300 as a lot of replicas have shape issues. Walter Baumer (he wrote a book on them) posts on Ferrarichat and seems to know a lot as he points out issues with various recreations. Engine wise I wouldn't have thought you'd have a problem as MIE support a lot of 3500 owners and McGraths could help out a lot I'm sure,. MaseratiSource (Jacques) could be another source for used parts as he breaks quite a few Maseratis in the States.

If enough has been done to get a running chassis fairly quickly, then as you say there are enough craftsmen in the UK who could create the covers, but as someone else has ploughed in the cash it may be worthwhile. Can you imagine the sounds and the looks......

And with originals up in the stratosphere in terms of pricing this would be a the way to go for mere mortals.

I'll eagerly await the outcome of your visit.

The main concern is engine. The flywheel needs to be balanced, with the crank, and also dowelled, to stop it launching itself, through the engine!
All main engine parts, to be inspected, and sorted accordingly. Carbs will cost over £1000, to reburbish, alone.
Wiring loom needs making. I would make the loom more modern, for reliabillity.
How straight, is the altered chassis?
Its a lot to sort, but not as bad as some i have seen. The big inspection, will decide things, i am sure.

Andy.

Bugger was looking forward to seeing you get on with that Liz.

Me too phil , even after the lads at La Butte let the cat out the bag to Kaz , spent a few embarrassing minutes explaining the reasons why its worth buying a box of nutsb and bolts for £30K but she had really warmed to the idea when i showed her a couple of A6gcs and 300 s in the paddock , reckoned she fancied herself in flying hat and goggles aswell , i believe in fate Phil it weren't to be , unless the new sale fall through

I agree with you Loz, if it's meant to be, the sale will fall through. If not, something better will be along soon.

Onwards and upwards, there will be plenty more, especially with all this rain about, know what I mean!
