Benny I just told the missus that 'Benny the Pilot' is the driver in the video with the furry hat and uber loud car - she exclaimed she wouldn't be too keen flying in his plane.....LOL :battered:

I told her the plane probably isn't as loud as the car!

Benny was made 20 years to late,as he's never driven a VC10!

Fortunately, I'm a lot saner at work than I am at play. Also, she wouldn't know it was me as I don't introduce myself as 'Benny the nutter' to the punters down the back. :)

Ahh, but there must be times when you get bored and give the thing full death!

Alas no. They have a VNO (normal operating speed) and VNE (never exceed speed) which, if abused, causes us, and you, all manner of unpleasantness; wings falling off, hull failures, tea spillage, waking me up, things like that. So, we dial in economy speed, get as many short cuts as we can and get us all, in one piece, to the bar ASAP.

...so you don't give that gritted teeth grin (a-la when your video man jumps in the car) when your passengers turn to greet you in the Flight Deck then....?

.....and one of the thirstiest per passenger/mile. They were created at a time when fuel costs weren't really considered and 4 Conways certainly went through it. IIRC, 6-7 tonnes per hour to carry about 150 pax. The A330 I fly goes through just over 5 tonnes an hour and carries 325. These days they are too expensive to run if Auntie Betty isn't stumping up.

Unfortunately, these days, we aren't allowed to receive flight deck visits between first engine start and last engine shut down. However, I do often get that forced-smile-through-gritted-teeth look when tasting the first hostie-made cup of tea.

...again, apart from Concord! 4 x Olympus with burners going trumps 4 x Conways with 'dry' power.

Maybe that where you got your love of noise from when you were a teenager....

Shame you missed the 70's BOAC at Heathrow....

remember the days of the Queens Building.

once flew back from Portugal from a golfing holiday in a Boeing 707 must have been 50-60 people on board and went up to the flight deck pretty impressive sight.

Not quite such a nice experience when the clouds have granite centres. A couple of fast-jet mates found that out the hard way a few years back.
